My wife and I have an understanding. She can leave her quilting stuff wherever and I can have my basses and amps wherever. Works out well. My stuff is spread over two houses though. I’m toast once it’s all together and she realizes how much of the bass stuff there is.

The VP body should work out nicely. It already has the belly cut so that’s a plus. I’ll fill the bridge pickup space. I don’t know if I’ll move the neck pickup space or just leave it as is. I’m thinking I’ll use the chrome Gibson Alnico pickup unless I can find a Thunderbucker somewhere. I hope the Wilkinson tuners will fit the smaller Epi IV headstock. We’ll see. And it’s nice to already have the claw and bridge ready to go and the electronics.

I’ll consult the experts here re the neck amputation and creating the neck pocket for the Epi IV neck. There are two luthiers fairly close in Fillmore. I may seek them out and see if one of them can do it.

Not sure what I’ll do for the finish. I may try the Reranch rattle cans first. Or Just go ahead and have Wilkins do it.

I’m thinking it’ll be a cool Thunderbird. The only things I don’t like about the VP is the ginormous headstock and how long the reach is. The Epi IV neck should make it more comfortable for me.

It's doable, but may be a little more complicated than fitting a Fender neck. Are you planning to move the bridge back to reduce the reach?

The LOOK is something I avoid at all costs. There is nothing on earth I fear. Except the LOOK. It is a look of quiet disappointment that is pretty close to lethal. I'll be avoiding sneaking guitar stands into the living room again. She doesn't mind me playing it upstairs. She just doesn't want it living upstairs.

I moved out here to move in with my now wife with an 8x16 trailer about 90% full of gear. She knew what she was getting into. I, on the other hand, had no clue, lolol. 16 ft Christmas trees and projection mapping my house.

I don’t know. That’s why a pro will be involved with the surgery. My main concern will be maintaining the proper scale length so it’ll intonate and the correct pocket depth/neck angle so the action can be low. I’ll start with that first to make sure it will work. And if it does, then proceed with stripping, filling the bridge pickup space, etc. If it won’t work, I’ll revert to plan B and use an Epi IV body. The VP hardware is worth what I paid for the whole bass so there isn’t much to lose. And I’ll learn a ton.
