Thunderbird Club

Tonight is one of those nights where I'm reviewing/playing our (TSC) songs recorded (show coming up in a week) and ones to be learned. Other than Paul guiding us all through his original compositions, I'm the one introducing new material. So I learn the song(s) backwards and forwards before coming into a rehearsal so I can guide the others through first run-thru's. I'm totally open to anyone else taking that role, but everyone has 'life duties' to prevent that. (not that I'm excluded from that!) Kirstin joked in a description of me on one of our TSC social media platforms, that if not for Geo, there would be no TSC! Both funny and true.

So anyway, while going over (playing) a number of those songs - I'm switching basses for ones that fit/are invited by the songs or that I recorded certain songs playing. Part of being a maker/minor collector of basses, I have what is considered "an embarrassment" of great basses. Every one of them kills - but they are all different in character and sound. After 4-5 basses, I ended up with one that a number of our flock played at the 1st annual T-bird GTG. The song that triggered it was this one - which was recorded playing it. Posted here before - one of my (if not my favorite) all time favorite pop songs.

Any ETA on your album?

Curious eBay post - obviously a '64 or '65 but no mention of year. Someone moved the bridge but left it pretty rough. Kind of a hack-job. Non-original pg and tuners don't look original either - they're old but not like my '64 II. Price is reasonable for doing a once-over to get it back in line.

Well, I had to do this before one of you saw it and snapped it up.
All in at over $2600, but the white is too rare, so I hope this equates to a deal. I’ve probably ruined my weekend now, dealing with buyers remorse….
If only the stuff I have listed would sell….
Very nice! The white ones are indeed rare. I don’t doubt the Barts sound fantastic. Should be a great player!

Yeah. They supposedly cut ties after ‘18 with Babicz because Babicz production shifted overseas. They use Babicz now on their Mod Shop builds. So I guess country of origin of components doesn’t matter to Gibson anymore.

Recall that several months ago, someone here had major issues with the licensed Hipshots on a ‘21. The pics they posted showed they were very different tuners from the USA versions.

I have not had an issue with the licensed tuners on my ‘21 NR. But I’ll admit to being really pissed when I learned what Gibson did. And I’ll likely swap them out at some point.
Mod Shop gets what Mod Shop wants?

Very nice! The video was well done. You certainly know what you’re getting. I would not have buyer’s remorse were I in your shoes. Enjoy it!

I know this has been asked a million times, going to have some work done on my burst bird.
One thing of a few is new tuners.
What is a direct drop in for the Epi CP?
But with non-tapered string posts.
And chrome or nickel of course.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I haven’t found any direct replacements for my VP’s. I tried some Hipshot HB-7, but they weren’t an exact match. I was gonna fill the original mounting screw holes and use them, but decided against it. I’m gonna put the HB7’s and BT7 up on eBay.

Mine is the Classic Pro though.
For a VP I’d put Gotoh resolite GB640s on.

Not likely to leave the Bartolini's in it. I have the Gibson re-issues that I just bought (that were reserved for when I found a Gibby ‘bird in black/ebony fretboard). I already have a chrome Babicz and Hipshot tuners, so all the black hardware goes in a box. I hope this is a good one, I really have NO BUSINESS spending this kind of money…

Gonna have to carry some CC debt for a few months…
Those barts need somewhere to go?

First ones I think of, without researching, that are non-tapered, would probably be Hipshots. Either USA or licensed, both are non-tapered .
If I remember, the 3/8 model is the one that fits the CP?

Ah, I believe you are correct!
And I’ll look those up, thank you so much Kara. :)

There's just something about a white Gibson Thunderbird, I didn't get it when I bought mine back in '89........

I do now!
