Thunderbird Club

You guys.....Too sweet, thank you.
It's nice to take a little break from the band, we don't officially have anything on the schedule until mid March and only a rehearsal for 12/8 right now. So I'll be spending a little more time with my gear instead of the band, I have a tube amp coming later this week and will be looking for another cabinet after the first of the year, and I need to look into some sort of pedal set that will allow me to just go right into an FOH as a choice of rig for some shows.......
Oh yeah, 2024 GTG in Seattle :)

What tube amp? And if you have a d.i. that will get your pedal-train into the FOH. I use the MXR d.i.+

Scott's demo of the Bugera Marshall 1960 Plexi clone was a little too good........:woot:
I don't use any effects normally so I just want something to "color" the tone for the "fly rig.

I really like the Aguilar Tonehammer for that purpose, great and intuitive eq (to me, that is) with a sweepable mid, pre/post eq DI choice, ground lift, XLR out, and it's even got a juicy overdrive!

seems like just Ampegs these days….this one is a beauty with it’s original NOS Made in US 6SL7s…… 30 Watts of sheer bliss…..

You know it - an iconic classic if there ever was one, and still kickin' way after its 20yr reign.

Early pic before I replaced the stained grill-cloth.

Any decent d.i. will give you that option. One that some players really like (but is pricy) is this one -

Aguilar makes good stuff -

Planning recording some pickup comparisons:
'13 NR Thunderbird+ Ceramic p'ups in direct comparison on the same bass as Armstrong Pickups' replicas of the '21/'22 NR Chrome covered Alnico p'ups (ie the differing neck and bridge units);
additionally I'll record my '22 NR (with original Gibson Chrome Alnicos) as well - there's a chance we may learn something or gain some intuition as to what we prefer.
I'll try to get the Greco recorded too - probably better to compare to the Thunderbird+ Ceramics than anything else as I'm suspicious that this era of Greco were Ceramic p'ups but not over-wound like the Gibson units (the higher DC resistance might account for the less articulate upper mids and less present high end), again, who knows!?!?
Also, I'm hoping to record my RexBird with the freshly-potted-into-Philly-Luths'-metal-covers EB Rhythm and Lead p'ups and then record it again once the guarantee work is done with the replacement EB "un-potted-in-their-covers" set. Which are supposedly wax potted indeed but loose under the cover.
The delay in doing this is due to it happening at a buddy's who is on tour. Prob just be audio but you never know your bad luck - hopefully before the end of the month, just down to when he gets back from tour.
Does anyone know what the brand/model of the active circuit in the RexBird is? It's acting like a buffer preamp/volume boost and nothing more, but it makes some very ordinary sounding passive p'ups sound really REALLY good!
Excellent! Will be very interested in your take!

Gear Acquisition Syndrome – or G.A.S. for short – is a term that describes the seemingly uncontrollable impulse to buy – you guessed it – gear. It's that insatiable rush that invades every cell in your being, convincing you that you need to buy that guitar.
Of course that doesn't pertain to any of us !?
So what are you buying now?
