If you were a girl who was less that 6'-2" and 210 lbs, would you have gone into a mosh pit? Even if you were that big, would you have gone into one of those mosh pits back in the late '70s or early '80s? And come to think of it, if you were sane, the answer might have been no no matter what. Mostly guys are dumb enough. Not that I would know.

More of a "back in the day" scenario - I attended a metal show (more to tag along w/a friend who is into metal) a few years ago and they had a big swirling mosh-pit going on. We were high up in promenade seating so could witness the whole scene. There were a number of women 'moshing' but everyone was so polite! No flying fists, relatively gentle body-bumps/contact, more of a frenetic, chaotic group dance than what a mosh-pit used to be known for. The other funny thing about attending such a show was that while standing in line, I was one of the only people (mostly guys) not wearing a black t-shirt with "my favorite metal band" on it. Really felt out of place. :)

There's a prog doc where King Crimsons drummer Bill Bruford talked about the fact that there were no post-show groupies waiting for them because there weren't any women in the audience to begin with.
There’s a tongue in cheek Rush vid on YouTube re that issue. But in SoCal at least, a surprising number of girls went to Yes shows. Bruford’s loss.

I totally get it though, women (generally) like more emotional music, and guys (generally) like more technical music. Teddy Pendergrass used to do huge concerts only for women!

Yes was pretty big in the Surf community so that could have just been a regional thing. I also went to countless Genesis shows. Up until And Then There Were Three, no girls. There was a definite shift with that album and after.

Yeah. Great vid. But it’s Canada. So polite. That was nothing like the scene here..

Hah! I think CA is fairly as polite as Canada. When I first moved here in '90 from Chicago, I couldn't believe how tolerant SF concert goers were. I went to hear a favorite band and the warm-up band was sooo bad. People clapped politely until they finally were off the stage. In Chicago, a flailing warm-up band would get unabashed cat-calls to get off the stage! I don't know if it's still like that, but I'm guessing it is. It's a tough crowd.

It's always a fun day! Totally low-key, a group of friends and die-hard post NYE Winters' regulars hanging out on NYD. And.., cupcakes and spiked punch have been involved... TSC did our 1st show 6 yrs ago on NYD at Winters'. We played/sang "When I'm 64" by the Beatles.

And yes, I did play my '64 II on that J1 2017 gig. (pre Kirstin)

Entiendo. Gracias.

A drummer who listens and a guitar player who gives it his all and knows it isn’t all about him. Getting them there is 90% of the battle. Sounds like you’re well on the way. Congratulations.
Thanks Marshall, you guys, I forget how rare that can be. I'm doing three projects and they're all really low-maintenance. After a while you can develop "personality radar", but still, really, I've just been dumb lucky.

Hah! We all create our 'dumb luck' ;) (I know - I'm in that same boat!)

I only bring one bass. I had an amp fail mid show once so I always bring a back-up these days.

Small, light and sounds great! We use it for keys at our rehearsal space.

I've had a string break, and once I had a shielding short in a bass. I always bring 2 or 3 basses. May as well -have more than 20!
And I usually bring my MB200 as a backup amp. Unless I'm using the MB200. Then I put my Peavey Centurion in the truck:laugh:

You just need to remember to keep your elbows up! There were a few girls that would go in the mosh pit, but mostly at the smaller shows.
