I think I read where she said the Fender was stolen. She's tried other basses, but quit even looking because the Thunderbirds feel and sound right to her, so what's the point? At least as of that interview.

I used a small speaker with electrical tape on the front of an acoustic guitar as a pickup. rather bandwidth limited, but it worked for a broke 14 y/o! Plus I was playing through a Bogen PA amp into a 12" (IIRC) TV console speaker.

Just put me down for any old thing, V. Make it the oldest Thunderbird in your collection. Nobody else'll want it, I'm sure, and I'll pay a fair price.
Or better yet, just stay Not dead Yet for a long time to come!

The guy who ordered this bass saw the II that I built a few years ago. And he asked me to build one for him too.
During the build he changed his mind and asked me to add the second pickup.

Seriously though. Many did that sort of thing back in the day. A bass was a tool. And there was no information available to guide us. But IMO, and from experience, a Badass bridge on a Thunderbird is a mistake. I’ve dealt with one that someone installed on my new to me ‘05 Gibson Studio. It was not fun getting it dialed in.

Was it a height issue with the Badass on that Studio?
The Badass 1s were a tall bridge. I can understand why one would get installed on a Gen 1 Tbird to solve the intonation issue. It would be much easier than moving the stock bridge.
