Gibsons are more expensive and are worth the extra money.
Not to mention in a thong, it just wouldn't be pretty. Maybe the cape would help.
Seems like a worthwhile endeavor for a builder who is experienced in repro PUPs. They'd probably sell plenty. I know I would buy some.

Hey Thunderbird lovers!
I've always loved the tone of Jared from Kings of Leon. I'm thinking about looking for a thunderbird. What was special about thunderbirds in 2002-2004 that would lead him to prefer it? Is there a model number for this?

Specific to those years, nothing exceptional actually. What was going on at that point would have been a shallow pitch to the neck, this changed at some point later on, possibly after 2006. Through the years since Gibson has reissued the Thunderbird (1988) there have been at least 5 designs of the "TB Plus" pickups used, with no notation of change by Gibson at any point. For the years 2002-"04 it most likely is the ceramic magnet type without a metal plate on the bottom of the pickup.

The other factor that could come into play is inconsistency in manufacturing materials. There's no way to know for sure if the CB that Rob had was the same as the CBs that you used.Rob's recordings were surprising, I was not able to correctly choose between the two when listening to them. However, in person it was quite easy to hear the differences. Through my gear ( I don't use any pedals etc.) the Gibson pickups are really full, with good bass, lo-mid, mids and a little less top end. The EY Guitars seemed to be similar to, but not identical to the Epiphone 760, I don't dislike either of these, but again just using my rig and ears they did not have the same full presence, there seems to be some bits of bass, lo-mid frequencies missing that EQ wasn't fixing. This is just my own non scientific experience, and BTW there's a Sawmill working in both of my ears 24/7.

Mine's in August. Summer is the slow time gig wise in FL. We were usually on vacation from our steady gig. And, of course, no school in those days(graduated 1964)..Hah! The one thing I recall after you saying this was not having my birthday celebrated at school because we were on holiday vacation. Kids b-days during school months would get acknowledgement - the class would sing Happy Birthday. As a kid I was envious!
