Ermergerd! The Gene Simmons EBO is $7K???

I had an EB-3 and for a short scale it was ok and would have kept it in the collection if it hadn’t been for the bridge pickup, just really don’t like them.

The Gene Simmons EB-0 is just about perfect, except for the price. If it was priced the same as the thunderbird, I would begrudgingly pay it, but 7k just will not happen. I think I’ll look for a beater EB-0 and refinish it to my specs…

Yeah. And look at the otherwise beautiful Inverness Green NR. Sure, they put a Babicz on it, which is a great upgrade IMO. But the finish bubbling on the headstock and at the nut is inexcusable for what they want for it.

I have the babicz on my EB-4 and it is quite nice, but I wouldn’t pay a premium over other bridges for it.

the tuna-matic base bridge is the best looking, and the 3-point is functionally fine WITH a claw.

Building from scratch there are a lot of cheaper options than a babicz, but I would consider spending the extra $$ on one.

:D
My MIJ Ric needs the TRC loosened, cause it’s completely flat and buzzy. Which can work in a band situation

I tend to set most everything stringed up as low as possible, clean when played gently, but lots of buzz and stank when I dig in.

I really don’t get the whole “sustain for days” crap, play another shaging note or don’t play another shaging note, but don’t bore me by letting a single note ring out until I’m ready to leave…

Calendar dates are blocked. Will likely catch the 7:00 AM JetBlue from LAX to Seattle on Thursday. Get a car, check into a hotel and see what those who are around might want to do for cocktails/dinner. I’ll be around until flying home sometime Monday.

it would be cool if @RedVee could arrive on Thursday morning. I’m willing to provide car service…

Having never been to Seattle, I would be up for maybe a Wed thru Tuesday kinda' thing to have more time to do more things. So if you or someone was down with sharing a motel room for that period - let me know before I book tix. Won't be bringing a bass - V will have plenty to play! :bassist:

You’re gonna love Seattle! So much to do, much better weather that anyone would expect and the scenery from the beaches to the mountains is breathtaking. Coffee to die for! Little hole in the wall bars with great all originals live bands. It’s just a very cool place for an active person.

I plan on being off for the whole GTG, there's lots to do here, with, or without my attendance. I may try to get the band a local show for Friday or Saturday. we'll see how that pans out.
I'm close to Sea-Tac, lots of places to stay nearby, we're stocking the house bar too!

Agreed, "sustain for days" as a bassist isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'm not on the hype train.

I can do 'sustain for days' by hitting an open A with the 'Bird sitting in front of the Kasino. If I plug it in, that is.:smug:

Remember the Carvin LB50 I mentioned I had gas for? Well, I made sensible calculations and decided that I can't and should not try to get it, just too much in this situation.
But of course I had to do something "sensible" with what I had raised by now (mainly selling one cab and the VP corpse of the cracked headstock saga) and as I have enough basses (ha ha!) I bought this:

Behringer's clone/tribute/whatever of the old Korg Mono/Poly synth. 4 oscillators, arpeggiator, polyphony (kind of), cross-modulation possibilities etc.
All things my other synths don't have.
Having it in 2 weeks time.
And to keep a certain bass g.a.s. going the fretless Wal reappeared and started poking my shoulder after I put this fine instrumental on my turntable.

Sounds great!

I’ve never worried about sustain. Or fret buzz really when playing loud unless the notes are getting choked.
The MIJ Ric neck moved a bit when rainy season set in, and I just haven’t gotten around to tweaking it.

80% of the sound of a Stingray comes from the preamp imho….integral part of it’s character….which begs the question, has anyone heard a passive one? I would love to…
Yeah. I had a passive Tim Commerford long scale for about a year before passing it on. Because it was designed as passive, the pickup was louder than a regular Stingray. I regret selling it. Pickup placement was identical so it sounded basically the same as a regular Stingray with all preamp controls in the 0 settings (neither add nor subtract).

I’ll be there Friday-Sunday at a minimum. Might get an AirB&B and bring my wife and daughter. They can hang out and do other stuff.

Excellent! I’m glad you’ll be there!

My wife might come with. We’ll probably just use Marriott points at the Fairfield or Aloft by the airport. She has family close by there she can hang with. Not sure what I’ll do yet if I’m batching it.

I have the Babicz that came stock on the ‘15. And I put one on the ‘13 NR. I”ll put one on the ‘21 NR at some point as the three point is essentially on the deck and I’d like to get the action on it a hair lower which the Babicz will accommodate.

The advantage of being an adult. I was in the Chicago Music Exchange over 10yrs ago and they handed me a '62 Fender Jazz with a $20k tagger. Set me up with a nice rig and walked out of the room. When I was young they would stand there and watch you play a bass in a music store. :) As an adult, any of us 'could' whip-out a gold card and walk out with the nice stuff. An illusion for sure, but I very much enjoyed playing that '62 J!
Yeah, but at my age, when I walk in I'm ignored. Little do they know I'm looking to spend some serious $ on some gear. Like maybe a cable or a xlr>1/4" adapter.
