Thunderbird Club

T-bird II action on Midnight Special

Could it be that Martin Turner added a bridge pickup to that bass? Or was it only on loan from Overend Watts?
He preferred to use only the neck pickup anyway but for a while his T-Bird was wired in stereo and had a fourth knob.

But that Midnight Special T-Bird II can't be the same since it's stripped (natural wasn't an original T-bird color until '76, right?).

Thanks Irv.
Your logo turned out amazing.
And does different things depending on the light.

The DIY part on the pick guard isn’t exactly perfect.
But I’m fairly imperfect to begin with.
I’m ok with that.
I’ll be sending up two pgs and two tr covers soon. Irv did such amazing work for the Silverburst Epi, I want the same black pick guards with chrome decals for the TV Silver and Alpine White Epis.

I’m debating whether to go black pgs with gold decals on the amazing Sparkling Pelham Blue and Sparkling Red Epis. Thoughts? The tr covers are both gold.

Every time I play these Thunderbirds, I remember why I love the Epi Limited Edition Custom Shop Bases. Such great value. They play great and sound awesome!

But my Gibsons are just a little better overall.

Hard to say. In the old Fly Guitars article I believe he only mentions the IV, so not sure where the II fits in. The sunburst IV has a white headstock, and in the article he mentions it was in shambles, had been shattered, so I think maybe the IV was refinished to sunburst after repairs? Maybe it was a II originally, was put back together in natural, and then had the bridge pickup added and was refinished to sunburst with a white headstock? Hard to say as he doesn't mention the pickup being added, just the Thunderbird pickups being rewired to have stereo out.

Definitely stripped to natural - stripping and streaking then.

I plan on being off for the whole GTG, there's lots to do here, with, or without my attendance. I may try to get the band a local show for Friday or Saturday. we'll see how that pans out.
I'm close to Sea-Tac, lots of places to stay nearby, we're stocking the house bar too!
Plus, there is the Basement of Bad Ideas and Blasphemy a bit north of downtown. Not that I have the same flock of birds to play with. I will make a point of hauling the Grexa reissue 360 down to V's place one of the days, just so it can disturb the neighbors. The 1968 original stays in the basement.
