I find them a bit like donuts - hugely enjoyable in small doses.

Poullain: The Thunderbird I have had since 2000. Fifteen years. Used a Precision a few times but never happy. Might grow a ponytail, change my name to Francesco, let the hair recede a bit and play something posh on the next album. There has to be a way to grow old gracefully.

Amongst others Kim was on a Seattle TV show.........Almost Live. Nobody pokes better fun at Seattle culture than this show, ever!

I'll look into this tonight- can't at the library (no sound allowed without phones)... but I saw a doc on grunge, and Kim talks about the grunge guitar riff being the opposite of a punk guitar riff.

Saw Soundgarden at the second Lolapalooza tour. Sheppard wore his Rickenbacker bass super-low, unbelievably low, and dragged it along the floor of the stage, sometimes pounding it on the stage in time, as he lurked about. Utter gonzo.

I didn't think of it as backward at all. I thought of it as a combination of goofy, energetic, and optimistic. And kinda sparkly. It's one of the very few places I would consider moving to if I had to leave Seattle.

For what its worth, I was there with the rugby club I played for, and we got schooled by local clubs. But, being Americans who learned to hit wearing all kinds of plastic armor, we blasted the locals out of their shoes on a fairly regular basis. They called us "courageous tacklers." I think that means something like ignorant hitters who recently escaped from a cave. It sure was fun. So, that may be coloring my thinking a little. I didn't enjoy Melbourne as much. The trip was too short to get anything except a quick impression. Who knows what I would think now.

I really liked Sydney 30 years ago too.
Mind you, I was single, 25 and living much much closer to the CBD then. That probably makes a difference.

Another Thunderbird band that Americans may not be aware of is the Darkness, who hail from deepest Lowestoft in the UK. Frankie Poullain afaik has only ever used TBirds.

I saw the Darkness last year. It was a very fun show and LOUD!!!!!! Frankie used a couple of Tbirds thru Orange stacks. The vocals do get old quick for me tho.

They're cool, but very expensive for what they are, stateside (they're a better deal in the UK, I think). The AD200B is a Fender type tone stack (boost only bass and treble, cut only mids). For that much I'd get a custom, honestly.

Their hybrid and solid state gear is a bit more affordable, though.

My friend had the AD200B for several years. It sounded good and was quite loud. He got quite the deal on it or else he probably would have bought something else. He liked it but he likes his Aguilar rig better. Like Sartori says, the hybrid stuff is more affordable and seems to get good reviews.

Time will grow long, this frame will eventually fall apart, but until then I will just keep being that sometimes difficult, oft-charming, always somehow haplessly amusing fellow with the fodera and... what's... wait- is that a Thunderbird? ...lurking nearby, waiting for his Guinness to settle.

Gracefully? Bah. But definitely not quietly.

I've been interested in how Gibson has done their T bird wiring. They definitely do it very clean but looking at pictures from various years all the way back, I see alot of variations. Does it really matter? I saw one where the cap went to the front pot and one where it went to the second and many where it went to itself. I've seen the lead to the jack come from each of the 3. Pot values? Cap values?
This is an area I'm new to. Using in wiring a bass I just copy one of my others or look at pics.
Also, I've seen the pickup hot to to the center lug and I've seen it to the outside lug. I'm just glad they don't have toggles!
I'm looking for any general insite with this. Educate me please.

Yeah, they do seem quite expensive. And nothing ever sounds as good to me as GK amps, plus they're really not expensive. I AM curious about Darkglass' new amp, but I'm perfectly happy with my GK and Darkglass B3K pedal. It's attached to my tuner anyway.
