I got distracted as I started reading this, but what I read yanked me back to verify.
“I put one in my BaCH II in place of the stock Altec. Huge …”
Yeah, that would make a huge bass (imagining a Voice of the Theater speaker in your Bach).

I know you asked about hearing a difference Geo.
I absolutely love the tone.
Much stronger and more present then a standard type P pick up.
I wondered if that was the case.Probably the same EQ for every bass, which works for some and not others.
So... big poles and more windings? I have 3 P-pu basses; my '66, my Glam P/J w/an EMG Geezer Butler and my Dano P with a Fender VP63. They all sound really good but are different.

Glam P/J - an early sun-set shot

Gold bridge cover - black pu covers and Roto tape-wounds... (now has D'Addario RW's)

Dano P - a friend gave me the (generic) ash body & maple/maple (SX?) neck so I built it up. It turned out to be a nice bass!

I recently modded an on-board tuner on it.

Hard to say about the windings, but I’d have to guess yes.
And I’d never knock that Precision of yours.
Me, too. It’s very well composed.I’d forgotten that song. Such a fun bassline.
I tip my hat to anyone who can sing and play drums.Yep, in Bad Lemon, he’s used them for years. If he improves his mic control (coming in or away at the right times) it works well, but he’s also got drumming on his mind.
Got not only a T-Bird, but a matching firebird sighting in this vid by Sweet performing “Love is Like Oxygen.”
I’ve always liked how the bass counterpoints the solo vocal as the instruments resume in the refrain-
Still like those shoesNo.., it's in its own league. The one at the shop in Santa Cruise was pretty nice also.
I'm playing it in this pic, which was during our "Bass Jam".

Are you saying he plays too quietly?I think @Ringhammer ’s drummer uses them. If I remember correctly, he hears himself so well that he doesn’t have a good feel for how loud he is really singing or playing.

I imagine it will be similar to playing with headphones when recording. I'll have control of my mix.
Yes, it allows you to hear w/o further damage. Using ear-protection (for me the Eargasm version) never affects hearing our volume levels, which is the beauty of it. They cut out (or at least reduce) the harmful frequencies which are primarily coming from guitars and cymbals. I already have tinnitus (what musician doesn't?) but I can still hear subtleties.
It’s too late for my ears. Damage done.
The real kicker was working at United.
Never used any ear protection what so ever, not proud of it.
Fast forward to being in several bands in PDX.
Oye!
More singing than beating the skins. Are you saying he plays too quietly?

Chances are it was with the gold hardware and dot inlays, considering the time of the video, and it’s certainly toppy enough, but the only way to tell for sure is the greatly embellished eagle on the pickguard, which you can’t see in this video. I had one in the early-eighties by the way, but traded it for a 1959 Gretsch Tennessean as it was too neck heavy for my tastes-Is that a Bicentennial Thunderbird? And is that what was on the recording?
Can't "like" that... I'll remember this when we talk again.

I stand corrected.
