Cover songs? At this time our emphasis is on originals but we've agreed to do some covers- thus far it's primarily myself and a drummer- need to find a permanent guitarist and singer, and hopefully a keyboardist-
I think I found a few of my choices that have a chance of group approval, at least by the drummer- in order pf acceptability-
"It's My Life" by Talk Talk- I deliberately submitted a live version starting with solo drums -
He was all over that, having never heard it before- but I admit I was tired by the time it was over, noticing that my Steinberger XT-2DB's action had grown incredibly high due to as bowing neck since receipt last November. But I got that corrected by a five minute exam and tweak by a luthier friend. Also it wasn't until after that I noticed that the Talk Talk bassist took a break whereas I had not until the end.
"Stone Cold Sober" by Crawler. Live version of a song I've like since I first heard it in 1977 as a freshman in high school- really like the true live playing and improv- the cable's being pulled on the floor, a cool visual tribute to the band's name-
This time my drummer was a bit hesitant, stating that one of his guitarist friends may not be up to the workout-
Then the reception gradually dwindling as the last two, appealing to my bi-polar self with incipient depression, but not so much to my upbeat and effervescent friend- most drummers are that way I believe-
But how could a bassist not dig these two? Fun bass lines for sure, though the songs be atmospheric and haunting-
Tune to Eb for this one, as Trower did so in order to facilitate vibrato and bends with 11 gauge strings- love this bass line and the spacey Electric Mistress sweeps on guitar-
Finally, one of the songs that made me want a Fender Precision as showcased by Rick Wills' subtly masterful comping-
