I found out from the UK importer that the Hipshot Ultralites fitted to the Gibson Non-Reverses are actually the licensed tuners, they are the satin grey chrome finish jobbies, fab tuners, maybe save yourself a few $s and get those? I may be wrong as I've not checked, but I think they do them in various finishes?

Be wary. While I have not had a problem with mine, at least one on here had issues. Hipshot or Gibson made good. But they are not the same internal design. It is the only disappointment about my ‘21 NR.

To me Roller Derby was cool as a Teenager. I remember the 1960’s Thunderbirds on Saturday afternoon Black and White TV. Some really tough,athletic, theatrical Rollers who loved their sport!
There was Always a little theatrics which even bled over into Rock n Roll. “Over the top” was becoming popular in our culture.

I liked Roller Derby on TV as a kid also - 'The Bay Area Bombers' vs ...." I read a book about it - it was very much like the circus, both teams and the portable track traveled across the country for paid audiences. The 'other team' went under a few different names to make it appear that the Bombers played local teams - at least it was like that in the early days. Those guys & gals were tough as nails! You know they actually got hurt sometimes even though most of it was theatrics.

Good morning and happy Friday to my Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. Insanely long week here and I am grateful for Friday to arrive. A great many changes at work with a transition/promotion coming ever so slowly. I have been toying with the idea of a new bass or piece of gear to celebrate. In the back of my mind I have always secretly liked Flying Vs, practicality be damned. I recall reading something from Gibson about some in the works, when they first announced the Gene Simmons birds. I have never read or seen anything about them since. I came across these two old photos, maybe Jack is playing a Guild, it is hard to tell. Curious if anyone has heard anything about a new run of them from Gibson or Epiphone? Will they all be short scale?

Bartolini said that the three-screw setup in their Thunderbird pickups is good because it gives you height adjustability in both directions. But since the two holes are only on one side, I wonder if this is all moot if you string lefty. Thoughts?

Does it matter if you install them upside down so long as they’re in phase? Everything else is upside down anyway…

My niece is there finishing up her PhD at Rice. She can’t wait to come home. Her husband is already back in SoCal, getting things ready for her. They met some great people, but could not see staying for the long haul.

Aside from playing them in the bass they came in for a couple minutes to be sure they worked, I essentially didn’t even use them. They came in my white ‘03 Gibson ‘bird, and I immediately put in a set of Novak Thunderbird pickups, double sick taped some rings and switched the black bridge with nickel Babicz, and black tuners with nickel Hipshot mini clovers.

Tell us about the Novaks please. I’m on this quest to make all my birds sound a little different. Those might work well in my Epi LE Custom Shop metallic red Thunderbird. It currently has the standard Epi pickups and Black Beauties.

The star-spangled custom Harley-Davidson from 60's classic 'Easy Rider' sold in auction for $1.35 million, which is the highest price ever paid for a cycle according to Hemmings. The chopper was named "Captain America" after Peter Fonda's character in the 1969 flick. A favorite Movie of mine.

That's a good question. I thought about it, but they emboss their logo on the covers, so they'd be upside down. And I'm shallow that way.

I grew up watching this stuff with my grandma on KTLA, as KTLA was powerful enough to reach San Diego. There were three San Diego network channels plus L.A. independent channels we could get: KTLA (owned by Gene Autry at the time) KCOP (owned by Chris Craft!), KTTV, and KHJ (owned by Lucy and Desi Arnez). I loved the roller derby when I was young.
