Reminds me of a Cheech & Chong skit on the Pope.Hey! You cows! get off my porch!
Well, I think you're full of.....I think y'all give them way too much credit. The only way they redesigned anything for that bass is if it was solely a cost cutting measure. I'd be willing to bet that any intentional discrepancies canes as a result of saving money. Changing a factory tolerances are bound to get shifted. Chinese factory probably just builds those basses in such a manner to cause the neck angle. I highly doubt anybody spent any billable time determining that h that was something that needed to be done. Just a simple by product.
At least that's my guess. My wife would probably tell you I'm full of crap.
You'll need only a tiny piece of paper to jot those two dimensions on.Now I want to go measure pickup distances in a bunch of Les Pauls in shops around town.
That's beautiful. In spite of the salami. I bet it sound great, too.Hey y'all. My first tortie pick guard View attachment 5377625

I think that happened in the late zeros or early teens sometime, but I'm not sure. My 1991 and 2001 Thunderbirds have the shallow neck angle like a VP. Veronica knows.They shifted manufacturing from Indonesia to China, this is the end result. Somewhere along the way someone thought they could add thier stink to it and improve it. Didn't Tbirds from the late 80's early 90s have this feature? If I remember right they did, causing the three point bridge to be raised quite high and leaving it looking like a oil rig bobbing around in the ocean.
I didn't notice at first ( was pointed out to me on the Facebook Thunderbird group) but they did change the specs on the 64, they added neck angle at the heel. Can't say I'm wild about it. First image is my tobacco sunburst VP, second picture is the new Inverness 64.View attachment 5377871 View attachment 5377872
Reminds me of my Freshman year at UCI. Our dorm was directly across the street where the Irvine Ranch Company still ran a small cattle range. They got out occasionally.Back at ya.

I’m still on an 8. Everyone else in the family gets the latest and greatest. Not me. But the battery is to that point where it doesn’t hold a charge. So I hope to upgrade this year.The iPhone 14 takes pretty good pics. The design lends itself to getting fingerprints on the lenses, cleaning them helps![]()
I like that.Did someone say Gibson headstock shape ?
@JIO ?Maybe I should ask this in another forum. I have filed to adjust a high bone or corian nut and just filed a little and tried until it felt good. If it went a little too far I used the super glue and file shavings to build up.
I put a brass nut on a bass and it’s too high on the E and A. Is there a more controlled method to use since super glue won’t fix it if I file too deep? I know there’s a lot of modders here so looking for a measurable way to file. I appreciate any help! I looked online but even more confused!
@JIO ?
I do one light stroke at a time. It takes forever, but I haven’t screwed up yet.You mean if I cut too deep? I'll use the file a little bit at a time and try it until it feels better.
I saw online about using an automotive feeler gauge to use as a height stop for the file. Sound familiar to anyone here? I'm having 2nd thoughts on buying that brass nut!
Ahhh...maybe I should just take to a luthier!

Honestly I fn give up. About a year ago I learned about new colors coming and I was assured that the specifications would not change. I emphasized that the VP was almost perfect. Geeze whatever you do don't follow your own legacy or listen to your customer base.Leo Fender used to give instruments to players to get their feedback. What they liked, disliked, wanted. Gibson can do that without giving anything away. Just turn your computer on and "Shazam!" There is a brain trust at your fingertips with no telling how many combined decades of playing. What a waste (or act of stupidity or sheer arrogance), to not avail yourself of such real-life information. Free!
That is one thing I like about manufactures who have people like Jon Moody from GHS active on TB string forum to interact with a huge number of players. Hear what they like and don't find helpful. That's just smart, if not caring about your customers or potential customers.
