And darn lucky too. I rented one in Monroe, LA while waiting for my stuff to arrive from Huntington Beach, CA. I was on a frontage road off I20 bringing some burgers, fries, and shakes back to the Holiday Inn Holidome when a lady from Tennessee driving a van crossed the center divider. I flashed lights, laid on the horn but she kept coming. My choice was hit her or drive into a drainage ditch and risk ending up on I20 going the wrong way. So, I pulled as far right as I could and as she hit me, threw the car into a spin to pivot around the impact point. Since it was dark and the cops demanded I get checked out at the hospital, I didn't see the condition of the car.
The next day I took the wife to the rental lot to look at the car. It was cracked in half like an egg right at the landau roof line and the support pillar from just behind the driver's seat was driven through the back seat. The rear axle was missing...the real fun part is you can imagine what dried chocolate milkshake looked like all over the inside of the car after sitting out in 100 degree Louisiana weather. All that chrome and steel likely saved me from looking like those milkshakes.
