Oh wow $6.75! Dang that is crazy...like you said we paid a dime! Cool Easter toy! As a kid you had to buy 5 or more because when you taped the Black Cat firecracker to it and it flew into the sky it blew into a hundred pieces!
I may have done that in my younger days. I'm the Chuck Jägermeister of test pilots. :)

In a sense, everything that doesn't catch on is a gimmick. It ceases to be gimmicky when it goes mainstream.

But to the above. No, no, no, Miles. You have this all wrong. Players should not be making decisions about what they want. That's the free market working and made Leo famous. It must be people who think they know better in an office making those decisions on behalf of the unwashed.:smug:

There's a YouTube vid of this young guy who created a bass with a revolving cylindrical neck. I had to watch the whole thing and was amused by all of his prototypes and design solutions along the way. Amused because there was no way in hell the realized end result would amount to anything vaguely useful, which was the case. He neatly solved some technical issues (that he created) but in the end it was unplayable and sounded awful. I guess it kept him off the streets...

Nikki is cool and all that.
But this gal has got it going on.
And I gotta a crush on someone else.

I thought about you model builders as I was picking out basket fillers for both grandsons Easter baskets tomorrow.
Of course I had to try one out just for quality control and old times sake.

When I was a kid I used to buy these at the 5 and dime store for 10 cents…they are $6.75 each now. Oh well.
Give me credit..I did put it together by myself. :)

Happy Easter to everyone if you celebrate.
Cheers to the rest.

Those and their rubber-band propeller cousins were my favorite 'toys' when I was a kid. And also a 6" solid plastic parachuter that you'd throw as far as you could in the air and his chute would open and drift in the wind. Kites too - loved kites on a sunny/windy day. All very nostalgic.

I still take kites to the ocean. They're a lot more sophisticated than the ones I had as a kid. We rented a huge house last summer at the Outer Banks, SC with my kids their spouses and we also took our 3 large dogs. I flew my nylon kite so high over the ocean and the wind was so strong I had a hard time reeling it back in.
Oh yeah it zipped straight up into the clouds in a matter of seconds. It was some great kite flying weather!

Idk, this one looks pretty playable. Maybe not by mere morals like myself, but playable.

:D

I saw a clip of a guy that made a glass guitar. I think I posted it a year or more back. Interesting, but practically useless beyond him and likely 5 other people on earth. But clever.

I have about 24 basses. I feel the same way about playing. It's performance art:D

Yes - exactly. Even a player who plays a ratty old guitar or bass is making a performative statement. I always laugh when people try to pose as not caring, like "I just play guitar dude, I could care less how I look" Worse is a player who 'doesn't care'/can't be bothered to tune their guitar/bass. ("close enough dude") If a musician is playing on a stage of any nature/form in front of even one person - they are presenting a visual as much as audible appearance/persona/look. It's why I present a different look for the two bands I play in. Bond Girl carries a lot of specific references, so tux's or show-biz dress and only one bass (my beloved '66 Oly white J). The Sean Conneries is more "casual' - so whatever I feel like wearing that night and whichever bass I want to play, I bring. (usually a choice between only a few) But all very deliberate and specifically aimed at presenting our bands' persona. It's partially related to the denigration of a general dress-code in the US - sloppy is not cool and never has been to me.

Case in point - Bond Girl is playing a week from today mid-day as I type (2-4PM) at the Golden Gate Park bandshell (outside) after a (locally popular) Bowie cover band called The Jean Genies (noon to 2pm). We'll most likely wear our tux's to deliver the established Bond look. I can't wait. We've been working hard on honing our sets and Cherie as front-woman is at her best. We are admitted amateurs, but strive for professionalism. We put on a good show. Hopefully we'll have some documents (pics & vids) to post later.

We are Bond Girl -

Novelty at best - lots of effects always help mask shortfalls... but kudos for creating and playing it. Can't imagine what he'd charge to make another. Needless to say.., it won't "catch on". Oh.., and he's slapping...

Loved kites as a kid. We would save our money from collecting coke bottles and get cheap kites. We would "enhance and reinforce them," then keep tying new spools of string on to see how many we could get, and how far and at times nearly out of sight a kite could get. This being in the city.
