Thunderbird Club

I'm a lefty as well. I got a 2013 for $1450 and couple months later they stopped production. I was offered $3000, couldn't pass. A few months ago I wanted another so the search was on. Turns out southpaw had 2 sunburst '13s for $1580. Im close to paying it off and I think there's one left. It won't happen again!
Jimmy from Southpaw is great I got my Tbird, SG Standard and a Mystic Blue Fender Jazz American Standard.

It's not as large and ugly looking than the hipshot supertone bridge. That is just out of place on a thunderbird. Albeit any gibson style bass it looks out of place.
I agree that it doesn't blend all that well, but the advantages are worth it to me. It's not like the audience will be able to tell the difference.

I spy with my little eye two small toggle switches on the new bird. I do like they are paying more attention to basses but I dno, I would have liked to see a more retro edition of the thunderbird. The exposed pole pieces look a bit out of place here IMO.

Nice bridge though. I want one!

+1. Maybe parallel/series, split and full switches?

I would've liked more bass options :( getting sick and tired of seeing the SG bass or thunderbird (no offense) with very little difference to previous year ones. Bring the less paul bass back, the victory, Eb-2, EB-1, EB-0F. the Sb series basses. Classic edition thunderbird looks with modern twist (tb-plus pickups under chrome covers, chrome hardware. Clover keys. The works. And more COLOUR OPTIONS :woot:

More bassists would take interest in gibson if gibson would take more interest in bassists.

Another price hike? Sheez. Glad I ordered a 2014!!!

The question still lingers..to chrome or not to chrome, and even then what pickups? I'm only interested in ones that require no routing. So that's no thunderbuckers if I'm not mistaken?

None of the repro pickups, Lull's, Thunderbuckers or Lollars require more routing. They're not as tall, otherwise very similar in shape. The TB Plus pickups can have their plastic shells removed and new chrome parts added as an option too.

They should bring back the RD artist like they have done with the guitar version, they'd get my money for sure ;)

That is what I've been thinking. Sad I passed the train on the Novoselic one! But if they keep going up with the prices I might just get one custom built (or pray to Zeus that Epiphone makes one).

I think I would prefer the standard version instead of the artist version - no need for the Moog electronics.
Also cool if they threw in a pair of soap bars instead of a pair of single coils like on the Novoselic signature.

I had the pleasure of trying a white ESP D-TR 290 Custom Shop RD bass at Thomann's a couple of months ago - stunning bass, but I wasn't to fond of the active electronics, and it was extremely expensive (€ 2555,-) :(

Had the price been the same as an Epi Classic Pro IV, I would have bought it in a heartbeat and turned it into passive...

Hello everyone! Sorry I've been away, been busy with college, it's not easy... But have you guys seen this?

Only place I can find any info on it, but it is legitimate. I love it...

Hey!

So good to hear from you again, Liam!

How is your health coming on? I sure hope you've recovered from your accident, and are feeling fine now. ;)

That ESP Starbird is kinda fancy looking - but WAY too expensive!!! :(

Love the translated text on the page though - Especially these two parts:

"...live to continue vigorously to love is here!"

"attached to the body and head that looks hard..."

Hmmm... Are they really describing a bass here? ;)

This website has No idea, but couldn't find info on the bass anywhere else but the Japanese esp page. And thanks for your concern, I am better, got back on the bicycle yesterday for the first time since the fall, god I was nervous, my doctor advised against going on the bike for 6 months but I felt good enough within myself to give it a try. Gonna start a project with my bike soon, so I'll be well occupied, especially with all this hard college work

Good to hear you're at good health! :)

How about your project with painting your bird with the Scottish flag - did you ever get to do that?
