If you are successful with the woodworking - applying the finish will be a piece of cake as it will be like starting fresh with any guitar body. (do the whole body, or just tape off the front and leave the back) You'll need a space to do it (outside on a calm day works best for a novice sprayer), a coat hanger made into a hook (at the neck pocket holes) to hang it (and a tree or hook from a porch ceiling to hang it from) and a can of spray paint. I've found that Krylon Fusion satin a works well. It drys fast (15 minutes), is self priming, and sands well. Sand lightly between coats and once the final coat is on - no sanding. Light coats (to avoid overspray/runs/pooling), use cross-direction overlaps and have patience between coats. The satin sheen levels nicely, looks even and holds up well once fully cured.
