I picked up the Peavey Foundation last night. Chuck gave it a thumbs up from a player perspective; however, seeing it in the daylight leaves a lot to be desired. The neck is great, but the body has a lot of scratches and chips.

So, I think this will be my first refinishing project. It's not worth spending money to send it to a pro, so I am going to give it a try myself. Step one will be to strip off the black poly. Any suggestions on the best way (read easy way) to do that? I do have a heat gun if that and a scraper is the way to go. Not sure paint strippers work great on poly.

Does that qualify as a PCB or an eyelet board? Given the 1965 serial number but late 1964 parts, just curious if the board is also the 64 design.

Seller says the neck is good, and he has lots of good feedback. The headstock repair doesn't look great, but we'll see when I have it in hand. I may have to set up to spray nitro with the airbrush.

Ok, who got the scoop on Ric replacement pups? I think I need to replace the bridge pup on the Heckinhecker. I live the sound and want to keep it- but I suspect this pup is what the hi-freq buzz is coming from.

The way the pick routes are laid out, the bass looks like it is set up for 3 3-point bridges!

The good news is there hasn't been any modding there. All original.

Around 76 Gibson changed pickup mounting from 2 screws through the middle of the pickups to 3 screws on the outsides and pickguard mounting. I'm speculating this one was made during the transition, so the holes were drilled after painting.

I had bartolinni's in just one bass and I wasn't super impressed but that was one example.

Decolas are sooper on my radar right now because of my two newer eb's

a maxon wouldn't be a mistake either.

I have one of the Barts in my J and it sounds good. The Decolas would make it very similar to a modern EB.
I might make multiple pickguards and use a connector for the ground wire. That would make it really easy to swap pickups.

a jazz bass (pickups and base) is one that I haven't completely gelled with sound wise, more tolerated than anything else, I have a similar feeling toward the split pbass pickup as well but I like it more than the jazzy ones.

single coil pbass pickups are one of my favorites though.

my maxon equipped 1975 Ibanez is likely my best sounding bass, followed by my 2013 EB and my 1966 KB-1, ALL others are merely tolerated….
