Thunderbird Club

I look to you for good advice.

And you give it. Timing just isn't ideal right now. I would get the wife eye roll + stare if I got a third one right now. Maybe one day I'll run across one at a ridiculous price. And I would not want buy one at a crazy low price from anyone here. GC, etc, is another matter.

Your's is black, correct? (Previously Will's?) If it is, that's the color I don't have and I hate black. (Or so I'm telling myself.)
Dave has Will’s. Mine is an early first generation ‘17 Ebony I bought on TalkBass. I’ve had it about five years now. I originally bought it with the intention of refinishing it in Pelham Blue. But the finish on it is flawless so I’ve kept it original. I just never play it.

All very cool. VERY COOL.

My '86 had the 18v pre. I actually prefer the 9v version. Both sound exactly the same, the 5-click 18v system has one more passive setting. Four-click 9v system has only one passive setting, two active setting and off/on. A Kubicki pre in any bass sounds like a Factor - one of my favorite active pre's.

And if anyone is on Facebook - visit The Kubicki Factor. One of my Factor-hybrids is posted there - the J-Factor.

I know yer not a EBCF fan, but my #2814(45/65/80/100-medium tension)set is really working on the 67 NR. I played a gig Saturday night and even using the R200c(15"), E wasn't at all 'boomy' and D and G still had plenty of 'oomph'. I've thought about trying a LPF/HPF, but I'm already running too many wires underfoot, especially when I provide PA. I see Broughton makes a battery powered one, but, TBH, I don't have an 'extra' $165* laying around. Guess I'll stick with EQ'ing the amp.

* mufunzalo. Still.

('course I'd have the $ if I sold the NR for anywhere close to what it should be worth, but that would kinda defeat the purpose)
I'm complicated. I really loved the tone, just didn't the way my fingers felt when playing them. I could not use my fingers. Might be considered an improvement in my playing by some....

The plate's still there. The felts? Long gone(fell apart).

Removing it was the first thing I did on both basses. I play at the bridge and the thin brass is pretty sharp-edged. Plus, I would have never used it as a full-time mute. I've seen them with black (not felt - more sponge-like) pads also.

jFactor ... forgot I had a pic of it. Bought an unlined fretless Ex-Factor for cheap that someone removed the pu's & pre. I had the pitted ebony fretless fb dressed and sold it for close to what the bass cost. I used the tuner-bridge for my Factorbird, installed Seymour Duncan soaps, made a removable 'plug' for the tuner/bridge cavity, relocated bent-plate Wilkinson bridge turning the 32" scale into 34" using an All-Parts Fender Authorized J neck. I redefined the hs and installed a Hipshot Drop-D machine. Electronics were basic passive VVT. Sold that also.

…Acquiring the taste…from left to right…
…1967 Epiphone Rivoli, semi hollow body,
…1971 Gentle Giant, gatefold cover,
…1968 Greco SAB 135, full hollow body…
…and no, I don’t need an Epiphone 64 or Greco II Thunderbird….

I dislike your organization. Is there a method beyond putting bands together? Albums need to be sorted first by artist (which you appear to have done) and then by release date. Any deviation from this method is wrong. ;)

I suffer from the same disease with you apparently:

I do make exceptions with solo albums:
What is Steve Swindell's 1980 album "Fresh Blood" doing there between Hawkwind/lords and Dick Heckstall-Smith? Well, Steve was Hawklords' keyboard player, that's why. On the other hand he had quit the 'lords at the time of the recording and also should I put the album after the Hawkwind's '79 release "PXR5" as it fits the time frame better? Damn, there goes the good night's sleep again...View attachment 5452601

Now here's a question, when it comes to artists names, do you sort by first letter of the first name, or last name? Is Neil Young under N or Y?

For mine, Neil is in the Y section. Except the Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and Stills/Young stuff. For bands, it’s the first letter of the band name (without the “The” if applicable).

I don't recall the 'felts' looking like that, however, I bought the bass in 73 and there's alotta [stuff] from that era I don't remember.
