I'll be there Dylan! Look for lots of(probably blue) hair!

Anything for my group of Birds that you'd like to try?

Nothing I can think of off the top of my head, but I'll be bringing my Greco 'Bird, EB-3, Precision, and maybe Jazz? Might even get out the Zebrabird, though it's in dire need of new strings. Maybe the Ric 4001v63, though it also lacks fresh strings. We'll see what I can fit in the car. Oh, and probably a Sunn 2000s if they'll let me.

Yes, that's the one. I'm really happy with it. I think my brother has a Diamond. I know he has one that's good and expensive, relative to the Boss. I might see if I can borrow it one evening and see what it does.

For what its worth, I got the Boss after wasting way too much time reading reviews here: Compressor Reviews

I'm pretty amazed at what the Boss does, and how good it can sound with a guitar, too. I'm a lousy guitarist, but that doesn't stop me from having a whole lot of fun with it. Set a certain way, the compressor makes the attack disappear and the sound swell then tail off, like some kind of oddball outer space something or another. Add in some feedback and reverb and it could be complete sonic mayhem. If you never hear from me again, you will know I got eaten by noises coming out of shiny boxes.

The Diamond has a fixed compression ratio and the only 'compression' setting you can really control is the threshold. It runs at 18V which gives it plenty of headroom. I spent quite a bit of time reading Bongo's reviews but in the end I told him what sort of tone I was looking for and he gave me a short list of candidates from which I picked one. He was spot on.

Tbird1958 have you had a chance to check out the orange lull bird with the dark star pickups at the Bass Shop [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]? I have been sporting wood since I saw it on their web page. I wish they would put up some sound clips. I will have to bug Evan and Jeff to do that.

Whoa!

I'd need to sell both my livers to get that!

:roflmao: If you do that, the scotch will be more effective. It's a double bonus!

It's a mistake to wander onto Evan's website if you don't want a certain amount of GAS. He has a Cataldo, too.

I was thinking about one of these until I saw the price:

But then, there are so many variables in how to get any specific sound that I'm pretty happy to mess around with whatever I have at the time. The bonus with the Empress is lots of knobs to turn. Turning knobs makes me happy.

Thanks. Reliable sellers? I'm thinking of getting a set for my Schecter Ultra. Still not crazy about the EMG's.

Eric is a good bloke. I had problems with the first pair I ordered (they were out of phase) and he shipped me a replacement pair *with a complete wiring harness* ... which I desoldered and sent back to him with the faulty pickups.

The Chinabuckers in my '91 work just fine. They were a little over a week getting here, which I think is pretty good, considering where they have to come from, and they sound good for the price. Eventually I want Thunderbuckers in that bass, but those are cued up behind a bunch of still to be done projects that I have already got going to some minimal level of completion.

I was contemplating thunderbuckers for the Morrígu but am now more inclined to think they would be better off in one of the new Epi Vintage Pros when I get my paws on one.

I found an unexpected sweet spot with the 2015 through the Acoustic Control 126 combo last night at band practice. Rolling off the tone, keeping the neck at about 9 and bridge about 8. Amp and all other EQ set flat. New to me Boss compressor (called a bass limiter for some reason) set at 12 all the way across.

It got all creamy and even. I could still get plenty of dynamics, but it tamed my sometimes awful right hand technique. If anything, the sound was a little clearer, and the difference between fingers, thumb, popping, and pick were more distinct. It will be different next time around. I'll try the same settings and hate it. That's the way it always goes.
Taps "off" I assume?
