Thunderbird Club

Another question, actually two-

Who of you use an octave pedal from time to time? I have the Boss one but have yet to use it. I will say this- since I’ve been listening a bit more closely, I seem to be hearing bass octave effects from way back, before there was such a thing, as far as I know- but I can't recall what song now-

Does anyone use a bass synth pedal- again I have a Boss version, the SYB-5, which I got a good deal on, but have not yet used, thinking how I would like to emulate 80’s pop and R&B synth lines I’ve liked such as The Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls” and Cherelle’s “Saturday Love”-

I have a metric butt-load of pedals but rarely use them, but the Boss OC-2 is one I will always have available.

I did try synths, and flangers and some other stuffs but I always felt like I could get all those weird spacy sounds I wanted with the OC-2, a phaser and a Bassballs envelope filter.

Ugh. That is a shame. Looks like it was a beautiful tree.

I’ve been fire clearing for all but two weekends over the last eight weeks. Broken oaks and pines, countless bags of pine needles, and lots of weed whacking. Inspections start 06/03.

It's a pretty large Maple that's in the back corner, I had an Arborist come out today, they can take half of it down and cut up. Happily, I won't lose the whole tree, but it saddens me because it's a beautiful tree.

You have your life partner. No need to look elsewhere. I would fix the bridge pickup though. If for no other reason than to satisfy my OCD.
I could fix the bridge/superfluous pickup and then continue to not use it as I have since I bought the bass.
Or I could put that $ toward something I would use-like more peanut butter whiskey.:smug:

Yep, it literally has a switch marked “Clean”:

I think when off it’s a bit more gritty, but in a good way. I will say, 500w and two 1x12’s aren’t quite as awesome as the AD200 (170 all tube watts) and 1x15, but for a small venue, it keeps up with both my loud drummers and 50w tube amp guitar players in each band. So basically, if I want convenient and safe(in trunk, out of site out of mind), I can use my mini rig and be content. BUT, the AD200 and 115, and occasionally with a 210 on top, still has plenty of gigs ahead! It’s just sounds too damn good not to be played out!

Hoping you meant 8, not 80?
I still consider keeping the SVT head, and there's a Hartke HD115 a friend will let go for pretty cheap...

I’ll have to look into it!
Great amps. Kind of the Berg and Mesa of Europe. Schroeder Cabs here in California was a US dealer. But I think that ended last year. I may be wrong, but I think Thomann is the only way to get a new one in the US at the current time. Of course Jeff can get one and surreptitiously send it to you once he relocates to Deutschland.

I had a BOSS octaver, but it only went 1 down so to get the desired bass and guitar in octaves effect I had to play up the neck and let the BOSS be the bass. Awkward at times.
I got an EHX POG that can do 1 up, 1 down, or both. I just don't use it very much due to space and available wall socket issues.

I would gladly do that :)

I got this as a bundle last December when I stayed at my parents’ place for that month-

Not loud but they could still hear it from my upstairs bedroom - fortunately mom liked my playing!

Sounded great with AKG 270 headphones though-

I got this to power it when away from an AC power source (20 VDC nominal)

On the topic of reducing size of amps, I’ve had a horrifying thought about selling my Mesa Strategy and going Darkglass or something… that being said I’m hoping to sell my Marshall MB150 and JVM rig to fund the darkglass and retain the Mesa. But the Mesa is TOTAL OVERKILL for me… which is kinda my thing I guess.
You are asking a person with TWO Acoustic 360 stacks about overkill?

Though I have mentioned before that I am lazy about changing strings particularly since I’m in more of a compositional phase as opposed to performance these days, but wonder who is getting the best results with what bass, regarding round wounds because I’m beginning to suspect that my DR Coated Neon Whites are beginning to give out on my black Aria Pro II (passive high output Rick-style single coils)

On guitars I prefer nickel plated strings since they tend to last longer. I love GHS Boomerd when they’re new, but they give out pretty fast- I’m guessing that it’s similar with the bass versions.

I’ve purchased various strings, some of which I haven’t tried yet such as DR Sunbeams. My Warwick 4 string fretless came with a set of flat wounds which sounded fine- have no idea what brand but they have red silk on them at the ball ends. Was surprised at how punchy they sounded when using a pick.

I do have a couple sets of Rickenbacker strings I bought for my 4003 which I’ll relegate to that bass.

They only set of strings I tried and didn’t like was a set of D’Addario half rounds on the Corvette fretless-
I tried DR Black Beauties on the Gibson ‘15 and did not care for them. Put about ten hours on them. When I got @KaraQ ’s sparkling red Epi LE CS IV, that is what she had on it. They sound great on that Thunderbird. So I have the other set for when those die. They were fairly new when I got the bass a couple of years ago and have kept their tone. Admittedly though, I have too many basses and don’t pick up that one all that much.
