I always venture in here through the side door of "Your News Feed", because if you don't keep up you're lost!
Hey, question... I got me one of these:

MTI era (Japanese) SVT and PR410HLF.
The GK is backup, but
not necessary...
The total weight of this amplifier is about 220 lbs. It's awesome, but getting it in and out of here:

Is really kind of a lot of work when you're just trying to have some fun.
The CP is great through it, as is the Heckinhecker. But, I'm starting to cave to the idea of smaller, lighter, efficient. I was never unhappy playing through anything I've had, truth be told! I just think that maybe it's time to do things that make life a little bit easier, a little less work when it's not really time for that.
I'm kinda bumming, this is a gorgeous amp. Just kinda venting a bit, still turning it over in that hot mental skillet that is my mind.

can you get clean and punchy out of it?

Yep, it literally has a switch marked “Clean”:

I think when off it’s a bit more gritty, but in a good way. I will say, 500w and two 1x12’s aren’t quite as awesome as the AD200 (170 all tube watts) and 1x15, but for a small venue, it keeps up with both my loud drummers and 50w tube amp guitar players in each band. So basically, if I want convenient and safe(in trunk, out of site out of mind), I can use my mini rig and be content. BUT, the AD200 and 115, and occasionally with a 210 on top, still has plenty of gigs ahead! It’s just sounds too damn good not to be played out!

Hoping you meant 8, not 80?

Though I have mentioned before that I am lazy about changing strings particularly since I’m in more of a compositional phase as opposed to performance these days, but wonder who is getting the best results with what bass, regarding round wounds because I’m beginning to suspect that my DR Coated Neon Whites are beginning to give out on my black Aria Pro II (passive high output Rick-style single coils)

On guitars I prefer nickel plated strings since they tend to last longer. I love GHS Boomerd when they’re new, but they give out pretty fast- I’m guessing that it’s similar with the bass versions.

I’ve purchased various strings, some of which I haven’t tried yet such as DR Sunbeams. My Warwick 4 string fretless came with a set of flat wounds which sounded fine- have no idea what brand but they have red silk on them at the ball ends. Was surprised at how punchy they sounded when using a pick.

I do have a couple sets of Rickenbacker strings I bought for my 4003 which I’ll relegate to that bass.

They only set of strings I tried and didn’t like was a set of D’Addario half rounds on the Corvette fretless-

It occurred to me the other day that the vast majority of my TalkBass posts are here, with the exception of occasional posts on the Phil Jones Bass amp thread, and those dealing with Fretless playing-

I attribute that to the camaraderie and uplifting fellowship I find here-

what's frets precious?

Another question, actually two-

Who of you use an octave pedal from time to time? I have the Boss one but have yet to use it. I will say this- since I’ve been listening a bit more closely, I seem to be hearing bass octave effects from way back, before there was such a thing, as far as I know- but I can't recall what song now-

Does anyone use a bass synth pedal- again I have a Boss version, the SYB-5, which I got a good deal on, but have not yet used, thinking how I would like to emulate 80’s pop and R&B synth lines I’ve liked such as The Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls” and Cherelle’s “Saturday Love”-

On the topic of reducing size of amps, I’ve had a horrifying thought about selling my Mesa Strategy and going Darkglass or something… that being said I’m hoping to sell my Marshall MB150 and JVM rig to fund the darkglass and retain the Mesa. But the Mesa is TOTAL OVERKILL for me… which is kinda my thing I guess.

Vince, you might like this if you’re after a DarkGlass.
It’s what I originally wanted over the Epifani, but was late on pulling the trigger on one here.

Except almost impossible to demo one.

If it's fully working, it's not Dave's. :D
Dave’s usually work. Just not at his house. He needs to get a real electrician in there to check wiring and properly ground the place.

Oh the joys of California construction from the “go go” eighties and nineties. Most of the contractors, and the inspectors they paid off from that time, belong in prison.

OK, I know that comment was about me. I can't complain too much about a 60 year old amp having an intermittent issue, especially when Chuck is around to look at it.

Meanwhile at Chez Veronica.......

That half is going to have to come down.

Ugh. That is a shame. Looks like it was a beautiful tree.

I’ve been fire clearing for all but two weekends over the last eight weeks. Broken oaks and pines, countless bags of pine needles, and lots of weed whacking. Inspections start 06/03.
