Thunderbird Club

Indeed. Bowie seems to have been one of the major reasons why SRV became popular. Likely would have happened given his talent, but slower. Bowie wanted him to play in his band, allowed SRVs band to open and Stevie came to the conclusion that was all it was ever going to be unless he jumped.
The story I got was Vaughan was unhappy with his compensation, and was basically declining to go on tour. Bowie said, "Look, I'm David Bowie." Stevie said, "Well I'm Stevie Ray Vaughan."
And the rest is history.

I had never heard of SRV until Let's Dance though. And- and I may get stung for saying it, but- in my mind his best work is on Let's Dance. Maybe it's the contrast in context, using the Texas swing/bluesy reference in a slick pop album. But it's tasty stuff in there.

Received notice of non renewal on my auto insurance policy. Excellent driving record. Had to jump through hoops to reinstate the policy. Then four months later received a notice of non renewal on my home owners/fire/earthquake/umbrella policies, never had a claim in the 10 years living here, again jumping through hoops to hopefully get them reinstated using California Fair plan for fire coverage. My insurance agent has informed me the policy costs will probably double, rivaling my mortgage payment. Seems like insurers would prefer not to write policies in CA right now. Add to that a bit of talk at the State level of implementing an exit tax on net wealth next year and it looks like I’m outta here if possible this calendar year. Shame, because CA really is a beautiful state, but I figure I can visit it as often as I want and not have to deal with the financial antics that have become the norm here.
Come on back home! Just a short trip to Nashville to visit the youngin'!

It's strange as that is the typical issue, but my homeowners insurance went from $2500 to $2000 when it renewed on 5/1. Didn't change the coverage. Umbrella stayed the same and cars went up a small amount. I didn't ask why.
Only your driveway and mailbox are covered. You'll get the bill for the house later.

Could be true. I like it if it is. I've read a good bit and watched a number of docs about him (SRV), and I haven't heard it that way. But that doesn't mean it didn't. SRV did know being his guitarist and opening act was a road to nowhere he wanted to go.

Did you drive by Mesa? Does it say Gibson?...

Nope, I don’t actually have any idea where they are, plus it’s enough driving going from San Mateo to Petaluma, (to get my ‘99 Ebony ‘bird that just does NOT want to set up well, PLEK’ed and all, but it’s a good as I guess it’s gonna get. It’ll just be one of my ‘birds with higher than I like action) then back to San Rafael to get my V4BH and 6550 modded ‘73 V2 which both now have new match power tube sets and the best of all of the vintage pre-amp tubes I have installed in them. The back to San Mateo to do a late Friday afternoon service call.

My upcoming setup for use in the Bad Lemon rehearsal space will be to use the V4BH with SVT212AV and the V2 with an SVT 48HE (4x8”) coming out of a ABY snd creatively using two HPF’s set different to each head. Keeping some sub 40hz lows in the V4BH/212, but pulling 50 or 60hz (or more) completely out of the V2/4x8, and otherwise using the amp tone controls to dial in a good mix between the two. I had my tech confirm if the amps were in phase, and they are not, but my ABY box has phase inversion switch on the B out. My tech thinks the better way is to use a speaker cable that is reversed on one end, and using it at one of the amp to speaker connections. This actually seems to me as well to be the best way, but I’ll be trying both.

Hoping this will all be enough as far as power to keep up in our loud room.

Right now I’m using my SVT5Pro (all SS, no tubes at all), into these two cabinets, bi-amped and crossed over, and the spec states I’m getting 340w continuous from amp A and 340w from amp B to each cabinet. I have no idea how much of that I’m actually using to sound good, but I will say, it sounded pretty good as of Thursday night.

I’m only doing this cuz I have all this stuff and want to use it. This rig will never be played out…. Pretty much will alway use the Orange AD200/115/(and sometimes)210 or the Orange TB500 and 2x 112’s for gigs.

That was a transitional time for Bowie. He left RCA and wasn’t sure what was next. Was he a rock star? A pop star? An actor? Let’s Dance, in large part due to SRV, was huge.

Thanks! So shim it in the pocket? I have a P-Bass and will measure the pocket width.
You could shim it, but you will probably need to get a bridge with narrower (or adjustable) string spacing.
Also check the depth of the pocket and if the bridge position will work for intonation.

I would take the neck off the Pbass and see how the Epi neck works on that body:D

If you mean the ‘73 V2 with 6550 conversion, what my tech did is add a “filament transformer” and modified the “fil, screen, bias circuit” (his words from my service notes) and added a small fan. This little V2 is now putting out 72Watts clean.

The V4BH is unmodified, just all cleaned up and new matched set of 6L6GC’s and vintage RCA long plate 12AX7’s, and a couple of good, vintage GE 12AU7’s in it now.

Those look sharp! I got a decent shape Bolt on T-Bird neck from a friend and can’t find a T-Bird body. Thinking about buying a loaded P-Bass or J Bass body. Are there any gotchas on the intonation or mounting? I like the Jag too.

They all will be 34" scale but the neck-pocket will be different. Gibson heals are narrower than a Fender heal & squared-off, so you'll have to create an insert for the T-bird heal. Test intonation differences from nut to bridge-saddles to determine where the T-bird neck will have to be positioned.

And related, Mick Ronson played with Dylan.

I left 18 years ago, beautiful state but the peeples ruined it.

There you go! I first heard that song live with the Horse before Rust was released. Totally blew me away. Love it!

after I wore out my live rust cassette, I proceeded to wear out 4-5 CDs too…

It's not just California. I live in New Orleans, and Louisiana has an insurance crisis. Almost no companies want to write anymore. We had our one go out of business after Hurricane Ida (took months to get our money back as we'd paid in full for a discount), had to go on the Louisiana Fair Plan (which is super $$ and sucks even worse if you make a claim), and then got a new policy when someone else would write. We are not paying over $10,000 a year. Our policy was half that when we bought this house 8 years ago. Car insurance is also nightmarishly high. We had to switch from Geico to Progressive, when our Geico policy doubled. I asked how when they had accident forgiveness (which we got a letter saying we'd reached) right before my wife had an accident. They blamed it on our changing driving habits. My wife works 5 minutes from house, and I changed from Real Estate to teaching, meaning I drive way less. It's all a damn scam.
