Thunderbird Club

Hey Mark,

Occassionally I visit The Last Bass Outpost too, and was wondering - is Uwe also a member of our exclusive club here at TB, or is it just Last Bass Outpost he's a member of? I don't recall ever seeing him around here, though...

Michael, if you're not a member over there you might join up, it's a free forum ( I'll say the same for everyone else here too) it's much smaller, but the genesis of it was the Gibson Bass forum of the old Dudepit. There's great a vast pool of knowledge there, not just about Thunderbirds or even just Gibson basses, everyone is very cool and we don't have silly pissing contests. Uwe is one of the board's two principles, and I actually did ask him about coming over here once, his reply was "They'll eat me alive!" No doubt in reference to the large 7ender Posse here - I'll armtwist him a little on it soon, he's due at my house on Saturday this week.

Mark, actually I'm already a member there as well - I just don't hang out there as much as I do in this club...

You should definitely arm twist Üwe to at least join our club and the Gibson club as well - I'm pretty sure he will be very welcome in both clubs, and I'm guessing we would all love to see pictures of "Ze Collection"! :D

Awww yeah!!

Ordered some nickel HBC tuners, i went with the big clovers, I know there will be overlap, but form looking at tbird1958's....they look damn cool
Ordered a hipshot supertone in chrome (ill swap it for the babicz whenever that comes..)
And awaiting steve's reply to order confirm the order for my 66' pickups and rings.
Can't wait to see the bird with all these goodies on it!!!!!

Mikael,

The older ones that I have will touch each other if they happened to be lined up - I really haven't had any serious issues with this since changing them.
From the backside..... This is my '89

Sorry to derail the thread again! I found a Novoselic RD yesterday, nice cracking on the nitro finish, heavy as hell and with a somewhat chunky neck.
I don't know if it was the use, but it sounded dead, I can't quite describe it, it lacked mids and highs, but it was also not deep enough.
I'm betting on the strings. But as I only want one for the wood, I though 1000€ was overpriced, so I had to pass on it (yet again).
Maybe I could trade one of my jags in the future.
I also tried a boomy thunderbird 2014, there I'm sure the strings were the problem, because I have never heard a bird so weak on the mids.
I still like the non-walnut birds better though (and the 2013 are not as expensive).

I'm making my Gaskell look more like a 70s t bird. I got these tb+ that the previous owner installed in these covers. Added then, rings, proper knobs, I also switched to long stem tuners. Bridge and jackplate on the way. The pickup screws are too short and I cannot raise them where I want them. I may have glue a piece of wood in the bottom of the route to pick them em.

Its a Nikki Sixx thing. He calls it an optigrab, it's a bracket that you would loop your pinkie through to hold/balance the bass when doing stuff on stage, playing open strings while screwing around ect. I don't use it but I think its cool.

That's what I say! I'm in a Crue tribute and his early bass was a 76 or so, seemed like a cool idea. I'm a black hardware guy so it's something new.

For those with more than one bird, which one is your all time go to and possibly favourite one of the bunch. (if you can't narrow it down, say your top three and why they are in that order)

I would say it changes with the purchase of new birds:

Up until recently these three have been my favorite ones:

1. Epi Classic Pro IV (Alpine White) - I love everything about this bass: The look, the neck and the sound.
2. Epi Goth - My first one, and backup to the Classic Pro: Looks cool and sounds dirty and it's been modded with FretLights, which is great for really dark stages.
3. Epi Limited Edition (Alpine White) - My favorite before I got the Classic Pro for same reasons as the Classic Pro.

Those are the ones I've been using live so far - But that was until I bought the 2 Gibsons last month.

Currently the band is on a short hiatus since we have no gigs until February, but I'm quite sure my go to basses will change as soon as we start rehearsing again. :)

So far I've used the 50th anniversary on our Nitzer Ebb remix a couple of weeks ago, and it sounded and played awesome. :)

All the other ones still needs to see some action, but are cool nevertheless... If the band had more gigs I would rotate them all, like Mark does...

For me, there is no doubt which is my favorite. My first, my 2013 TBird IV. It's light and fast and it plays so much easier than my other two. My Studio V is a close second but it weighs a lot more and I rarely go to the B-string though I think it is a very cool bass to have the option of playing. And lastly, The Goth. Not too heavy, fun to play but definitely not as nice as my TBird IV.
