Thunderbird Club

Thanks for all the kind words!
This build was kinda special to me. I started the build and immediately found out my wife had stage 4 cancer. So I put it on a back burner to focus on more important things. After about 6 months my wife went into remission and insisted I restart the build so I had her pick out the color. She loved our last Porsche Cayenne color (Jarama Beige metallic) so I researched it and found that it’s very very close to Golden Mist Polly or Shoreline Gold…

While the body was at the first finisher her cancer came back with a vengeance so I again held off on the build to focus on more important things. She passed away in September and I shelved the project all together. On her birthday in May I decided to finish the bass, so off it went to Pat Wilkins. Came out great and will always be a special bass to me.

I lost my dear fiend Lou similarly early last year. He was my upright bass teacher in 1976. I have an SX-70 pic of him on our fridge so I see him every day. Their memories live on through us -

Getting a Thunderbird led me to the D-Roc. They are both great instruments; completely different playing and sounding, but they do share a similar body shape. One feature of the Dingwall D-Roc that I really like is where the strap attaches. It makes reaching the lowest notes easier. Any of you ever try that on a Thunderbird?

Nice to have a little stuff from Burien,WA Pride, most of what we shot did not come out as it began to get dark, anyway,
my apologies to the late Ben Orr for wrecking the bass line here, sometime ya just have to drive the bus and forget about the niceties.

I hadn't heard the original in years so I went a-googling. Y'all did it a little faster than the original, which often happens in a live setting. So did they on "Midnight Special".
IOW, fine.

I don’t know. Maybe because I’m on the sidelines. But it sure seems some on here have spent a lot of coin this year acquiring a lot of nice basses. More power to them.
If one has the coin, fine; if not-mufunzalo, as usual-not fine.

ADDENDUM(b): In fact, about the only basses I look at the links for are mid 60s NRs to get an idea what mine might be worth.

That control cavity cover makes me sad. "Setup" is a noun. "Set up" is the verb.

My StatusBird and Spector Legend 4X both came with the strap buttons in the same or similar position. I think it works well with Tbird style basses. Pretty sure that Roger @Count Bassie did this mod on his Epi CP.

That never digs into you? I guess with the strap it’s no biggie…

As particular you are with tone, you should get the Broughton combo HPF/LPF filter. $200. There was one posted in the classifieds yesterday for $125. I’m sure it’s gone by now. But if booming bass in a big room is your beef, that’ll likely cure it.
I have had one for years now. It works well.

customers of ours….they like our components for their LIDAR (radar that uses light) implementations……GO Aldous!!!….actually, kinda scary…
I will be nervous about those until there is proof they see motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Well, at least as well as the usual myopic idiot driver who sees none of them.
