Beautiful George!
It looks fantastic, George, love the color!
Excellent! Very classy. Can't wait to play it! :woot:
Great job! Damn I need to have you build me a bass.
Ditto George. That color is amazing. What a beautiful bass.
Wow! That is a beauty!
No words to describe the awesomeness!
Well done my friend!
Cheers!
Georgeous, George
I like the boobage G...and that color is over the top!
Nice work George!! Looks fantastic!!
Dang. Now there are four NR's I love the look of!
And that's why Epi (or better Gibson) has not done that. Who would want such a good looking, good sounding bass? There's just no demand for such things.
Beautiful!
George should build and sell them (Reverb and the like). I'm positive the quality is as good as anything being produced and sold, with maybe the obvious exception of seriously high dollar boutique basses. Even then, I suspect anyone would be hard pressed to find any quality issues whatsoever. All his builds look top notch and I'm sure feel that way.
It's a tough nut to crack - I've been doing it for over 13yrs and ATC I'm still barely recognized. Those who have bought my basses absolutely love them - but there's many non-industry/boutique/cuatom basses out there to choose from and frankly bass players are... frugal... as you know. Guitarists?.. a whole different animal. It's baked into our DNA.
:wideyed::thumbsup::hyper: If you send it here, I promise I'll play it in live situations and report back. It might take a few dozen gigs to really get a good read though.:smug:
stunning…..:drool::drool:

Thanks for all the kind words!
This build was kinda special to me. I started the build and immediately found out my wife had stage 4 cancer. So I put it on a back burner to focus on more important things. After about 6 months my wife went into remission and insisted I restart the build so I had her pick out the color. She loved our last Porsche Cayenne color (Jarama Beige metallic) so I researched it and found that it’s very very close to Golden Mist Polly or Shoreline Gold…

While the body was at the first finisher her cancer came back with a vengeance so I again held off on the build to focus on more important things. She passed away in September and I shelved the project all together. On her birthday in May I decided to finish the bass, so off it went to Pat Wilkins. Came out great and will always be a special bass to me.

For those of you who have both, how does the Greco bird compare to an NR. Going by memory of the little I got to play one, I *think* they are similar?
You’re referring to the ‘21 Gibson NR? And recall that Grecos with the 70’s early 80s pickups were were different A family resemblance, but different. George has all three. He can probably fill you in.

I hate to put this up after George knocked it out of the park. The beat up black poly is gone and VBT at Chuck’s suggestion.

Turned out nice Dave.! And of course the color looks great. That is a very nice, reasonably priced, single coil tone machine. And the Foundation necks are wonderful. A nice alternative to a JBass. Very cool!

They are! His only issue would be cease and desist letters. They’re that good.

I think that applies to most of us. Depending on how much "disposable" income one has. BTW, wuttinnahell is "extra" money? For those of us experiencing chronic 'mufunzalo', this concept does not compute.
I don’t know. Maybe because I’m on the sidelines. But it sure seems some on here have spent a lot of coin this year acquiring a lot of nice basses. More power to them.

The Greco II and IV are both reverses, so the reach and the lap balance is a bit different than a Gibby 21 NR. I like the feel of both the NR and Reverse bodies but they are very different when sitting or standing.

The neck on my NR is much more rounded than my Greco necks, width is about the same IIRC. I have over 20 Tbirds and I’d say my 21 NR is quite possibly the most effortless bass of the bunch to play. I don’t know why, to the best of my knowledge I have the same Fender strings on it as I do several other Tbirds and action is set about the same as well, but this one just darn near plays itself.

As far as sound goes - the NR is more laid back and warmer, not mellow but just smooth and deep. The Grecos have a more aggressive sound and are capable of blasting out many other basses in volume, and thickness of tone, kind of a wall of bass sound. Simply stated, the magic of the Grecos is their pickups and placements, nothing else about the brand is anything beyond Epiphone or Gibson.

Quality of components and build goes to the Gibson. The Grecos are solid basses but the stock hardware is not at Gibson quality levels. Finishes and woodworking are about equal between the two brands.

If I was in the Greco buying mood I’d be looking for a nice clean original 1970’s era single pickup model in the sub $1300 range. That’s a configuration you can’t get from Eppi or Gibby. If the Gibby NR and the Greco II were both for sale at the same price in the $1500 or higher range I’d probably very reluctantly go for the NR and second guess myself to death. I just have a hard time seeing the justification for asking prices north of $1300 on Grecos. They sound great, but don’t really play or feel or look any better than an Epiphone CP, which can be had for sub $800 pricing and sounds almost as good as a Greco and every bit as good as an NR (as long as you get the one or two year run CP with the special pup placement).

customers of ours….they like our components for their LIDAR (radar that uses light) implementations……GO Aldous!!!….actually, kinda scary…

It's unnerving to see cars w/o drivers cruising around my Mission neighborhood while walking Mona.
