Thunderbird Club

Ok. So you’re now tasked to do a 30 minute seminar at the GTG to teach us. I’m hoping to give you a good review.

I’m joking, of course. But I’d love to get some advice on how to set various frequencies.

I feel it comes down to hearing - but unless you have really nuaunced hearing and a certainty of what you are after... it's going to be a 'close enough' endeavor. And close enough for someone may not be close enough for you. I usually let my bass, the strings on it and how I play it determine the favorable (or not) outcome/result.

what a cool photo..

Thanks for the great suggestion. I love my Ampeg head for everything else. Sounds fantastic for everything--but the NR and the '55 Pbass. I don't mind taking the little Ashdown if it will fix the NR or the '55 given it's 4lbs. I don't think I want to have a larger head to take back and forth or even leave on top of my other head. I don't think. I might consider replacing my Ampeg if I found something that worked the same magic for everything. But would hate trying to sell the big head Ampegs. If I were to find a head that really did the trick across the board, I would likely consider replacing the Ampeg--if I were equally happy with what I was hearing. But that is a very tall order.

Given the Ampeg works great most all of the time I think I would rather get rid of the offending bass than get into amp chasing. (I could get quickly addicted to that and there's no Ozempic type shot for that yet.) I'm not really sure I would spend $200 on any kind of tool that might fix what I'm hearing. I likely would if I could return it if it didn't help much. But I don't want something else that likely helps some but didn't really fix my issue (which is cause by pickups being above the sweet spot and closer to the neck).
but if you went in the amp direction you may find you’ve been missing something…….Ampegs can be limiting imho….

He’s such a good guy. I just wish I could handle his singing. But I’m a fan.

I got over that easily enough - I just don't listen to much of their music! (never have) I get why he sang like that (he explains why in a vid I watched) and I respect him as a (f-ing monster) musician and nice guy. You don't have to love everything about the players you like. In retrospect, I think he and Rush were better as they got older - better than the early stuff. < my take - YOMV... just never was a Rush fan.

Okay, five years ago, the City of Maastricht lost its final music shop.
View attachment 5495516 Of which I had been a loyal customer for over 35 years. I remember how that shop had the most deluxe Fenders and Gibsons and was always ahead of the curb. Heck, when as a kid, I was granted permission to play a Steinberger bass I found that to be a very big privilege.

But the DJ culture and internet sales made it that the shop started to lose its main source of income and for many years, those racks which held the most amazing guitars became empty. Then the owner of the shop, Daan Smit himself, lost his wife and he decided that enough was enough.

Now in that picture of the interior of the shop, there are two guitars which stand out. A Green strat and a Blue strat. Which had been part of the personal collection of the guitar tech there: Arnold Smit, the son of Daan. He and I became good friends over the years I was a customer of the shop.

Last year, I bought the green strat off of him.

And today, I managed to acquire the blue one as well. I got in contact with Arnold, and he congratulated me and also pressed to me that I should keep them both and that if anybody should continue playing them, it would be me.

Maybe. But I jumped on board with Fly By Night when I was in high schhool. But they lost me soon after that.

You have to sneak up on them so they don't have a chance to react ;)

My friend is a hard-core Trace fan and has a nice selection of heads and cabs. He is the reason I was looking for the head in my pic.

Someone posted this in a Trace group on FB. I am surprised his house is still standing!!

It was until recently. Now there's not a trace left.
I'll see myself out.

Luckily for all of us - there's a lot of music/bands/artists out there to like, or not particularly like/care about. :) I'm certain there are a lot of artists/bands/music I like that most people could do without.
