Thunderbird Club

Woke up to find this unwelcome visitor walking around in the shower. This is the third we have found in the shower in under a year. I would rather find them there were they can't climb out than when I walk around the house in the dark. We have avoided being stung so far, and I would like to continue that way.

Worst we'd get over in England is a cockroach 🤣 Don't think I could deal with a scorpion 🙉

It’s part of the California Dream.

My mountain place is on the North side of Mt. Pinos. At 6000 ft. In a national forest. We have the house and adjacent vacant lot. It’s a chore keeping it fire safe.

It was pretty buggy when we moved in 2 1/2 years ago because the last three owners were rare visitors to it. They let it get pretty buggy. We hired pest control which has done a remarkably good job getting things under control. I found a dead scorpion in our bedroom at Christmas. And a dead one on the back deck last Friday. So the mix they use, formulated for scorpions, is working. I have not seen any roaches. And the spiders are pretty much gone. We’re here about a quarter of the time each month.

The San Andres fault runs in the valley along the base of these mountains. I like a sense of adventure. And l’m crazy.

Suggestions for fire safety: remove trees, pave both lots. :smug:
Just re-read. You say it's part of the California dream? Did you stop into a church you saw along the way and get down on your knees and pretend to pray?

Did you submit a 'bug report'?
Seriously, them things is nasty. Used to see them every so often where we lived in Miami in the 50s. Big, black muthers. Gave me the willies.
(I said that 'cos we aren't s'posed to say "scared the 'carp' outta me").

It is likely a standard IV with a mod. Those are the standard Epi pickups. Maybe someone added a preamp like the old Epi Pro used to have. The Pro came with a different bridge and a 1.5 nut. That pic looks like it has a 1.72 nut. Either Korean or Chinese.
Edit. I just took a closer look at the pickups. They are not the standard Epi pickups.

Ya had me worried there for a second, pard!

Thanks Tay. Open invite if you get to SoCal. And to my other friends here too.

It’s why we have it. Four seasons. But way too much snow the last two winters. And this winter is predicted to be heavy snowfall again. Subarus are the most common car up here. Shoveling the driveway helps keep me in shape.

I just looked up about the Aussie Scorpions. According to the Australian Museum info they can’t kill humans, they glow under ultraviolet light. Is that different to your black light ?
Whaaaat? I thought they were 12 feet long and swallowed humans whole, digesting them over the course of a week, and if the food fought, internal stingers kept them curled into whimpering balls of pain.

Its a beautiful place despite the apparent hazards!

My sister's place at Sheridan Lake (about 6 hours North of here) used to have trees, but they have removed most of them for fire safety. Understandable, but It kind of takes away from the "cabin in the woods" thing.

These aren't large compared to some varieties you can find around the world. This one would *MAYBE* be 3 inches long if you stretched out the claws and tail. Big enough to get your attention, but thankfully not as big as other types. This type (Bark scorpions) do pack a punch when they sting (so I here) but aren't deadly to humans or most animals. Cats love to catch and kill them and cat fur keeps them from getting stung most of the time.

As GP said, same product, different name.
