Thunderbird Club

This place sells pickups built using the original Epi covers, but with Gibson internal construction. Plus they are priced at $65 US for a pair!! That is the direction I would go if I was in your position. They actually sell several different Tbird pickup options (Including the ChinaBuckers people mention in this club) for very reasonable prices.

I didn’t know about these. Thanks!

Since it’s an EQ pedal, what is the point of the pre/post EQ switch? Seems like that turns it into a pricey two knob preamp. Do people do that with Ashlys?

Your guess is as good as mine.
And a lot of amps have pre/post for their DI’s.
So not uncommon.
But I had no problem with the price.
And the S40 is, “my sound”.
I would guess it is for the balanced out to choose if you wanted it pre or post eq.

I had a lesson in not just accepting work on a car without thought.

Wife’s Astra hatch (Holden, Vauxhall, Opel) needed a service. So I took it to the local dealer that had done nearly all its services so far. I had noticed that the left (near) side stop light wasn’t working so I said “while you have the car please fix the stop light.”

Well they came back to me with the diagnosis that the connector had been burnt out and the globe, connector and wiring all had to be replaced. Quoted cost AU$371 ! I expected a $5 globe replacement. Sacré Bleu!

I didn’t accept that.

Anyway tried around the place and one popular mechanics that quoted “European Car Specialists” gave me a recommendation to a mobile auto electrician that they outsource a lot of work to. After some days of fiddle farting around to organise the car to be here at the same day / time as the repair guy, it all happened.

He took a look at it. “It just needs a clean”. So he pulled apart the connector and found a little (dremel like) tool and cleaned the dirty connector. Put it back together again, and Voila! she works. Nothing replaced, not even the bulb. AU$60 for the call out, diagnosis and fix.

I was very pleased, I really don’t like the “just replace everything” mentality.

Well done!

Good for/on you.

So in an earlier post I mentioned about purchasing this Thunderbird, I picked it up for $400 AUS which is about half that in english currency. It came with a nice solid case so I figure it was still worth the money. It's been modded with a preamp and active pick ups, going off the serial number can I date the manufacture somewhere and would anyone know where my best bet would be to buy the pick ups and pots to restore it to original?
If it’s the Tolex Epi case, they’re very nice. They don’t make them like that anymore. Worth at least $100. The closest to it now is the budget Gator Thunderbird case.

The standard Epi pickups come up a lot on the Bay and Reverb. I’m a fan of them. Stainless steel rounds bring out a very nice TBird t tone. We’re I gigging, this would be in the gig rotation.

I know we discussed those a year or two ago. I don’t recall anyone ever following up to confirm the claim.

Rob may know.

Ok, on the mobile phone screen render for my iPhone, I could not find the “Bookmark” option.

So, it is there but you need to turn your phone to landscape view. Then the icon appears at the top of the post (not below like before) between the share icon and the post number.
Don’t know Geoff. I’m having problems with it today on my iPad.
