Wife’s Astra hatch (Holden, Vauxhall, Opel) needed a service. So I took it to the local dealer that had done nearly all its services so far. I had noticed that the left (near) side stop light wasn’t working so I said “while you have the car please fix the stop light.”

Well they came back to me with the diagnosis that the connector had been burnt out and the globe, connector and wiring all had to be replaced. Quoted cost AU$371 ! I expected a $5 globe replacement. Sacré Bleu!

I didn’t accept that.

Anyway tried around the place and one popular mechanics that quoted “European Car Specialists” gave me a recommendation to a mobile auto electrician that they outsource a lot of work to. After some days of fiddle farting around to organise the car to be here at the same day / time as the repair guy, it all happened.

He took a look at it. “It just needs a clean”. So he pulled apart the connector and found a little (dremel like) tool and cleaned the dirty connector. Put it back together again, and Voila! she works. Nothing replaced, not even the bulb. AU$60 for the call out, diagnosis and fix.

I was very pleased, I really don’t like the “just replace everything” mentality.

Glad you got it sorted for a reasonable amount. I'm sure the dealership has their reasons for taking the approach of replacing a whole assembly rather than cleaning a corroded connector, but that stuff drives me crazy!

Took on a series of three gigs over the next two weeks. Agreed to it before they sent the song list. Well, they sent it over Thursday night and I only knew ten of them to start with. I'm having a blast with all the synth stuff though.
