Thunderbird Club

Nope. It won’t. I’ll do oysters before goat. And I do not like oysters. At all.
I may have said this - I'd try fried oysters. I like fried clams. But raw oysters? No, thanks. The last person who put a raw oyster in front of me took it back when I asked where he wanted to wear it. (He knew I was probably kidding. Maybe.)

I know. Just think, we will be seeing 2001 as vintage before long. I'm sure in in a listing somewhere. Even mid 70s doesn't much count as vintage to me. It's somewhat subjective I now. My wife turns 60 tomorrow. I think instead of calling her my "trophy wife," I'll start calling her my "vintage wife." Clearly it will apply even with my definition of vintage.
It's been great knowing, you, Donnie.

Greetings. I’ve got my first Thunderbird, an Epiphone Classic Pro, and I love it. I typically use GHS Bass Boomers on my other basses. What strings go well with a Thunder bird? Would you ever put flats on one?
Congrats. I have never owned one of those, but flats can sound amazing on Thunderbirds if you like flats. I have one, and another with Tapes. (Obviously not flats, but definitely not rounds.) My '76 has had Fender's and TIs. Currently a Epi Vintage Pro has GHS Flats.

Works for this guy as well. ;)

Quite a few of us love Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats on our birds, including CPs. The Classic Pro pickups emphasize the lows more than highs, but the EBCFs maintain more highs than most flats. What sort of sounds are you after?
Welcome! This is the coolest club on Talkbass, and Thunderbirds are the coolest basses around.

Welcome here! Show us a picture of your new Thunderbird :) I'll add you to the club.

I use rounds and really like SIT Power Steels, excellent lo, lo-mid, and hi mids not brittle sounding, and Ken Smith Rockmasters.

Welcome! You picked a great bass, a lot of people here hold the Epiphone CP in very high regard. If you were lucky enough to snatch a 2012ish model even better. For a one or two year run they had the neck pickup in a slightly different location (closer to the bridge) which adds a bit more bite and snarl to the sweet creamy lows. I love mine. It’s currently sporting rounds but if I were inclined to put flats on it I wouldn’t hesitate using Earnie Ball Cobalt Flats, probably my favorite flat on a Tbird.

When I was young, I foolishly didn't keep up my M/C license. I rode a borrowed bike for a few months and bought a bike before realizing I'd done that. I rode my new bike for a month, then went to get the M/C endorsement.

The driving test was in a parking lot full of cones. The course was pretty basic with left and right turns, a stop, a surprise turn (cop waved you one way or the other from the middle of the lane - brave of them), a zig zag through a half dozen cones, and a parking space at the end (I don't recall if you had to parallel park or if it was a pull-in). There was a speed limit throughout (15mph?)The course had to be completed between a minimum and maximum time. Too fast or too slow, you failed even if everything else was perfect.

The poor 15 y/o ahead of me going for his learners license was in his mom's huge boat of a Cadillac. He came to a complete stop in each segment of the zig zag. The testing officer had his failure ready to hand him by the time he was half way done, and verbally reinforced what the problem areas were. The dozen or so others I'd watched while waiting were mediocre at best, which isn't really surprising. I was careful not to accelerate too hard and to observe the speed limit, and whizzed through the course very close to the minimum time. The testing officer had my pass ready as I pulled up to the finish line, and wore a big grin.
I got my endorsement at 151/2 and have kept it ever since. But I couldn’t convince Frank to let me even sit on his bike when we were up there.

Congratulations! My strings of choice for Tbird+ pickups like on your Classic Pro are SIT Power Steels. I also like Dunlop Marcus Miller stainless steel Superbrights. Many here like various flats on their Thunderbirds. I’m not one of those who does. YMMV.

I grew out of the Oyster thing after a night of heavy drinking during college.
