Just scored a set of Gibson re-issues out of a 2021 NR. $141 all in for the pair with one ring. Seems like a good deal.

Funny how the set specifies “Lead” and “Rhy”, whereas the ones I purchased directly from Gibson only gave one option, which I think was only “Lead”.
When they first came out, there were some specs posted that noted a difference. I found one that showed the neck measured at 7.4 k and the bridge at 8.1 k. Not an huge difference. According to the Gibson Pickup Shop spec listings, the “average” measurement of the Vintage Reissues is 8.2 k.

That is an awesome score Rich. Great price on a pair of great pickups!

For comparison, Lollar lists his (which are also Alnico Vs) as follows:
Avg. DC: Neck 7.9K, Bridge 9.0K (Read about DC resistance)
Recommended Potentiometers: 250k
Recommended Capacitor: 0.022μF

He claims his have “better volume balance than the originals.”

Whoa! I would be worried about warbly/chorusy overtones with that much magnetic pull on the strings. I've done quite a few 3-pickup experiments with basses and encountered that issue a couple of times, where I had to swap one pickup out for something with less pull, to fix the issue. Also, my 3-pickup Godin Shifter bass suffered from that issue. I've never tried 4 pickups, but can only imagine that EVEN MORE pull would result in the issue being present and exaggerated, which would be disappointing to come across after spending $4k!
You'd definitely want the pickups lower than usual. Maybe add little hydraulic systems so each pickup lowered further when not in use, and jumped up by the strings when selected. Then you could have fun turning the pickups on and off with the right hand while tapping with the left, pickups bouncing like hot rodded low rider wheels as the sounds phased in and out.

If it were mine, I’d mod it by adding a flux capacitor.

I wonder why 250k pots vs. 500k pots which is how its usually done? Wouldn't that reduce high end & clarity?
