The wings don’t look like either the pickup or bridge covers on my 64. Mine are teardrop shaped.

I’m doing my part, I just ordered a set. I think Dave mentioned they weren’t as bright as Cobalt Flats, but I think Donnie mentioned they were brighter than Cobalt Flats. I guess I’ll find out. These are potentially going on my ‘66 NR Tribute Fretless Tbird to replace a new set of Cobalts that are a bit too bright for that bass. Looking for more bottom end and preferably less tension than the Cobalts. Dont know if SIT PFs will get there or if there are better options. Any insight is always welcome.

They are bright, but I don't recall compared to Cobalts. I will say that after a day of playing I can begin to notice some slight mellowing. As you know, I'm not not a bright or clanky person, but however bright these are, they can or so it seems, be easily tamed. But I don't find Rotos crazy bright as may do, so much of that must be what I'm playing through. I took some old LaBella DTFs off and they were deeper sounding. But I suspect the SITs will mellow nicely as all flats do.

Cobalts have the brightest “balance “ response in flats . You aren’t gonna get “brighter” than those in a flat.

Dunlop have strong upper mids
Sadowsky black label are bright / hollow like chromes.

Smith “slick rounds “ (half rounds) or other ground wounds?
Or Pressure rounds from many MFG

You are the first person who hears a scooped or hollowness in Chromes. They had lows and highs t my ears every time I've tried them. Everyone else hears mids that I do not.

I would add the Ernie Ball flats are on the bright side--but have mids. Only a brief run with them. They came with a bass I bought and I tried them on something. I look forward to trying them on something one day. Sounded pretty interesting.

No DRs in medium scale. Medium scale is the problem here. Short scale has way more options.

Jason has been helpful. He suggested the GHS brite flats, which have a 46-108 (I think) set, and they are OK.

I have a short scale set of EBCF’s in 50-110 and they are PERFECT for my D-Standard tuned short scale Les Paul Tribute DC. If they only made that same set in medium scale.

I guessing I should see if I can get the tailpiece far enough back to use long scale strings on my med scale "EB3".

Those ain't cheap!

But they sound good. Love them on one of my Pbasses. Possibly the smoothest string I have played. I would not call them bright. Regular LaBella's are brighter on my basses.

To me, Chomes are all thud n clang with no hi mids in the body of the note. Low mids in spades.

The fretless I have gets deep and dark. I can tweak the bass' pups and tone, but I'd like the native tone to be a little more "centered" in the frequency range. I'm getting a little nit-picky there I think...

If I listed off the basses in detail it would really be something….

Start adding them to your information profile. Do a couple at a time. That way you have a permanent list backed up in the cloud. I started doing that. And include the currently installed strings for most of the basses. Only caveat is that you need to make sure no one can figure out where you live. So remove location data from pics you post etc.

My wife tossed some chips at me the other day. I think she realizes I have way too many Thunderbirds. Her birthday is coming up. She’s starting the guilt trip thing.

But it’s all good. She knows when I buy them. But she rarely pays attention.

Hi! Haven't been around here for ages and I usually pop in when I have some new stuff to play for you which is the case this time too. Sorry about that, it feels a bit selfish. But it's also the reason why I haven't been able to contribute or even read the postings as I got the album done. It's a collection of ambient/soundscape/experimental stuff with some prog thrown in there too. There are guitars, bass guitars, drums, percussion and even a trumpet (not played by me!) so it's not all some droney synth stuff (there's that too). All instrumental with a soundtrack-like theme. The release date is the 1st of May on every other platform but I wanted to release it earlier on Bandcamp so here's the link:

Frankly, I didn’t like that car so much; it was too big. But the ramifications have cost me. I love my Crosstrek.
