Someone please tell me about nylon tapewound strings, ala LaBella “Deep Talkin’ Bass” black nylon tapewound.

I have 4 medium scale basses and can’t find medium scale rounds in anything heavier than 50-105. I know there are flats that will work good on these, adding that little bit of tension the shorter than 34” scale needs, but I also want to tune one to D-Standard/drop C, and all of the medium scale basses I have, set up as well as I can, with a little bit of relief and low action are a bit buzzy for my taste with 50-105, rounds. With same gauge flats I can get them playing great, even in Eb.

The LaBellas have a set of the black nylon tapewound in 60-115. This seems like a good solution for tuning a medium scale basses to D-Standard and Drop C, but are these strings basically a dead out of the pack set, intended to be fully “thuddy” or is there any brightness at all to these?

They're basically 45-105s with the nylon tape wrap.

The bass you want...........

It's not difficult to play or get the right tone if you have the right bass and a tube amp. Re eq your amp and use only the bridge pickup, not the Mudbucker, it sounds perfect for copping Andy Fraser, good for adventures with Cream's catalog as well.

Aside from Thunderbirds probably my favorite bass! I own several 60s and 70s versions. They really shine with good tube amp!

I like it A LOT surprisingly light (8.6 lbs) and hangs well. Versatile totally and HUGE sounding.

I got my first new car in 1976 as I was leaving home to go off to college. I read about every car in that price range. Those things were way too ugly to ever think about buying.

‘76 Colt. It was the base model for $3400. I had saved $2200 and my parents helped with the rest.

Lots of praise for Los tension but doesn’t that make for a lot of fret buzz, or necessary high action? Since I only tune straight E standard 1/3 of the time I imagine low tension would be even more of a problem in Eb or D standard. Let alone on short or medium scale basses.

I used them on a Dano longhorn tuned D standard, and no fret buzz, back off and play lighter, or raise action a small amount.
YMMV of course. Also used a 5string set with a Squier Vintage Modified P Eb 100% of the time in a Modern country act.

The LTF strings are about the same COMPLIANCE as round core strings of a similar gauge. Meaning, the string does not vibrate with a large amplitude being a flat.

As to the action specifically:
Adding more relief helps more than raising the action: especially if you are accustomed to high gauge/ hex core taught strings.

Has anyone here tried out the Harley Benton TB-70?
At 189+ shipping, it could be a candidate for modding with EY guitar pickups and rings.
It ships active, ugh.
The pickup spacing “looks” close, but it is a 34” scale.
Mahogany, set neck: the ingredients are there.
The reverse headstock looks pretty good too.
