...I've recently become enamored with Dunlop's Standard Series nickels on my Carvin.

Kidding aside. I get it. As much as I like some strings, I have never found one string to be ideal for every bass. If I had a string endorsement I would no doubt see things differently!

Even crazier, the strings I'm currently using on the BC Rich are GHS Pressurewounds. Jury's still out on this one, though.

Seriously. I hope SIT and Dunlop fare ok. I've recently become enamored with Dunlop's Standard Series nickels on my Carvin.
I think Dunlop can weather it. Although not a huge company in the overall scheme of things, he’s pretty diversified with multiple products. I pray SIT can hang on. I do expect $20 for a pack of strings is going to be a memory though. We can all help by continuing to support them.

I recall when Thunderbucker closed, he pointed to difficulty sourcing the magnets as one of the reasons he decided to shut down. There are multiple issues small businesses face, particularly in uncertain times.

For a number of years this had those and I loved them. Swore I would not even waste time trying other strings. When the last set died, I did. I just put Power Wounds on it last evening and may use it Sunday. May end up getting a fresh set of the Pressurewounds if the SITs don't being the magic the bass used to have. Also had them my my Orange PJ.

And the Pressurewounds just came off. Since I finally found my optimal tone for the Carvin, I'm attempting to do it with the BC Rich. Now that I'm more familiar with its electronics, I'm revisiting strings I previously tried. The Ken Smith Rock Masters are back on and I'm liking them better. I need to try some SIT Power Steels again on it. Unfortunately the Badass bridge on it makes it a little harder to swap strings than a top-loading bridge.

what's the deal with pressure wound? are they rounds? flats? steel? asking because they get mentioned quite a bit....what's their spiel? last longer? tension? brightness?

Did you get a chance to use them live?
Bridges that are not top loading should be banned.

They are Alloy 52, (same as Infelds), not typical NPS or SS. They can be a tad stiff, but nothing crazy. They sound big, have great mids (thanks Alloy 52), and the highs are there but not harsh. They do not feel like ground wounds, because they are not. Good feeling string.

Thanks. I was hoping you'd reply to that since you have much more experience with them than I. I liked them, but I needed brighter for this bass. The Hi-A pickups are pretty dark.

There is no "winner" as I understand, just nominees. This is about the 3rd if not 4th time J.T. has been included in this.
(Chris won Male vocalist and was nominated for about five categories. The old boys from Kentucky keep doin' alright.) I'm late on seeing this as I don't keep up with awards.

Thunderbird nominated

Louisville made a bike path all across the city. Including some of the chemical and industrial parts where my wife worked where only a moron would want to ride a bike for a number of reasons. Expanded the roads for miles for likely 20 people--maybe a year. Only a city would think that was a good idea.

Sometimes they're trying to encourage people to bike. But usually you have to do more than build it and wait for them to come.

The Sydney Lord Mayor whacked bike paths through the CBD. Just put a kerb down one edge of a few streets removing parking and reducing traffic lanes. Took a while for people to get used to it.
I suspect it was as much an anti-car move as pro cycling.

They later - probably the State Govt the driver - shut off traffic on the main street of the City - George St - for years while building tracks for a new tram - sorry “light rail” - line. Umpteen businesses went to the wall due to the build delays leaving a huge reduction in passing pedestrians for an extended period. Now up and running and people have got used to it. Still a few more changes they want to do.

I will say the light rail is probably an improvement now it is up and running. A pity for the shop keepers during the build though.

I don’t think the bike paths are an improvement. Brisbane (a much smaller city) has a lot of cyclists into the city CBD, they seem to do it well and there is a bridge over the river for cyclists and pedestrians.

Like this…

There is a local seniors “Ukulele Orchestra” that I’ve been invited to. But I haven’t made the jump as yet. It’s on an awkward day for me and I’m a bit self conscious on being good enough. I’d be in the rhythm Uke section, I have a low G now on my Tenor rather than the high g in usual Uke tuning. There isn’t a bass in there atm - maybe I’ll ask the question. Probably wouldn’t be heard in a total acoustic setting.
(I have an acoustic bass guitar, and am open to getting a bass Uke).

I guess I should just jump in sometime soon.

Pre-bird content.
The great overlay bakeoff progresses, slowly.
Acrylic, fiberboard, phenolic, walnut.

These are backs, faces have cutline paper on em still.

Roughed out, trimming to the line.

Walnut will get ebonized after sanding.

Whichever one wins gets lower part shaved to the peghead after gluing down.

Gotta say Im kinda digging the phenolic... the subtle cloth pattern under clear might be real appealing. 1950's version of carbon fiber. Period-correct but original.

And it's very hard. Not gonna compress from the tuners clamping it.

Walnut veneer is rather shockingly fragile, and just slightly spongy. Maybe due to how it was cut. Not sure about its compressive strength.

Fiberboard is still a contender, once I clearcoat a sample.

Acrylic is kind of the fallback.

Wow, how cool...

Thx D.....the Bicen came with these improperly installed (1 turn only) set of fairly fresh steel rounds (no silks) that sounded ok, V recommended Infelds(?).... the bass is clearly a keeper so now wondering what to do to it....new set of strings next....
