Has anyone tried a Ash body T Bird to see if that helps the dive?
Yes, completely agree. But with a good setup they don't feel like you are fighting them or having to work any harder.
Untill i can find Thunderbird bobbins this is how the bobbins are made as of now. These get high temp epoxy and 3M Washi taped before winding. Im going to contact a guy in China and ask if his company is willing to sell bobbins. The ones in the offshore T birds that are actually real nice for the price

So you’re talking a heavier body? No thank you. My main Gibsons are all under 9 pounds. My ‘15 is around 7 1/2. It doesn’t dive. I really don’t understand the dive issue. I use nice straps when I’m standing. I just don’t have problems
I just went with.1 in my VP: liking it so far.
I often use .1 with my basses.
I tend to like the ability to get to the resonance peak (low mid bump) earlier in the rotation. Then still have more rolloff to go (at the cost of singnal / volume loss)
Yep. That is a rare bird. Bicentennials are a different Thunderbird. Sidewinders wired in series. It’s a personal taste thing. I love, love, love my ‘77. They have the to die for skinny neck and the sixties headstock. They do have the three-point. It is perfect on my’77, but it’s sitting on the deck.
Revisit Chuck and spend time with his ‘79 and make sure the pickups will work for your tastes. If you buy one, it is pretty pointless to swap pickups. IMO. The sidewinders are what make it unique.
Or go ahead and buy one, swap pickups, and sell me the sidewinders. I have an Epi they would be perfect for.
So we have only met once. And corresponded here. But I count you among my good friends. I have got to get up for another gig. And if the Bad Lemon groupie is there, all the better.

Unless something about my financial status changes very significantly and positively, there’s no chance I’ll spend over $2500 on any bass. I am at a point where I simply do not need another bass (heresy, I know), but I have an impressive stable of basses, amps, cabs, and I have just recently reached the point where I’m pretty well content with my collection. The Cherry Red 2014 was quite literally the cherry on top. I have a few basses I’d like to sell, and if I can move those, I’ll even feel good about the money spent. Right now I’m struggling with, what I consider, careless spending. But, the obsession needed to be satiated.
Believe me I get it. You offered one up a while ago that I would die to own. I’m pretty much there. I don’t plan on offing any Thunderbirds. But I have a SMMM SUB and an old Ibby I never play. They aren’t worth much. I’d like to find an earnest kid to just give them to.
I will amend what I said above to include that, if I could sell all of the gear I would part with, all at once and end up with enough $$$ to buy that white ‘76, then I would. Aside from setup, I would not change anything on a vintage bass of that value.

I have an ash body P-Bird with a maple neck. It is a Precision in all but shape. It balances like a Thunderbird. For me, that means it stays wherever I put it. It doesn't work like that for everyone.
I will do so and report.
Ebony is likely to get the 916 pickups in the next 2 weeks.
