When I worked the hotel gig in Miami Beach, we backed some of those cruise ship acts. But rehearsal? Ha! We got a 15 minute talkover for a 40-45 minute show. Five nights a week, sometimes 6.

Was curious as I just got back from a 7-day Alaska cruise. Lounge band was excellent, and the bassist was great. 3 45-minute sets every night, different genres and sets each night, and they were smoothe together.

Got to wondering about the backstory of that type of gig.

Typically, 6-9 month contract. Maybe 1 day per week off when in port. Unless you’re a headliner, 2-4 people per room. Many times they have a second job on board when not performing. But, no real expenses, so you pocket whatever you get paid.

you usually go through an agent who has those contracts, once you're in you're in... in many cases bands in those circuits also play land gigs like hotels and casinos...a bar that I played at for years used to just renew the singer/frontoerson contract every 3 or 6 months depending.....room and board so you can save...popular first gig for recent outta music school grads..

Listed as a ‘98, but actually a 2000. Not sure why he included a pic of an Epiphone neck plate. All the other pics seem right for a Gibson. Not a bad price if you can help him figure out how to ship it.

Interesting. I liked the ceramic better in every sound sample. So are the Gibson TB+ pickups ceramic and the Gibson reissues Alnico?

Those of you with Epi 64 Thunderbirds, how do you like the stock tuners? I’ve been quite happy with mine.

Been perfectly satisfied with my first run stock VP and Eppi 64 (purple sparkle) tuners. It’s the Eppi IV and Eppi Goth tuners that are garbage.

Over the past 9 years since I've released The Gibson Bass Book people have been sending me emails about their bass not being in the book.
But there is no way I would have been able to include every Gibson bass that the Custom Shop ever built. A handful of them happened to be in the collection that formed the backbone of the book. So I was able to make decent photographs and include those. But all the others were not included simply because I either did not know of their existance, or did not have good enough quality photographs to use for the lay-out.
I'm not sure if the specific TBII with sidewinder was even part of the collection when I photographed it in 2011. It sure was when Mark visited Frankfurt a few years later (see pic a few posts back).

I’m loving the three pickup thunderbird I made (in my avatar) and recently ran across a three pickup thunderbird from the early 1990’s that appears to be a Gibson custom shop but I can’t find any info that confirms Gibson ever made a three pickup Tbird. Are you aware of such a model?

what do you think of the BaCH tuners?..

My two BaCHs have slightly different tuners. The white one which is very heavy and I think an earlier run has tuner posts that come to a blunt point at the key. The blue one which is much lighter and has a thinner neck I suspect is a later model run and has tuning posts that are rounded at the key. Both tuners are stock to the best of my knowledge and both tuners types seem to work fine. No issues with tuning accuracy or feel or slop in the gears.

Correct.
That said, it would be really helpful to know what gear was used. Is there an amp with DI and/or mic? Standalone DI? Straight into a board or computer? I don't have any Gibson reissues, but the TB+ in my CP are very warm. The proBuckers in my "64" sound warmer through my Rumbles (especially in a bigger room) than the Gibbies there.
