Used the '64 with DTFs again today. I didn't notice the A sounding lifeless as before so maybe the strings are maturing.
Sounded great with the Ashdown in run through, a tad better with the Ampeg tubes. Great either way, just a little different. I think with the La Bellas there is less upper mids and highs (obviously), which I kind of miss, but there is so much thick goodness I'm happy with the difference, at lest for now. It doesn't sound like it did, but how it sounds a different kind of great.

This afternoon I found my Berry Oakley tone. Thunderbucker VP (neck p/u only, tone barely on), Super 800 Plus, Rumble 100 with mid controls backed off to noon vs their usual 1:30-2:00.

I'm in awe. I've never gotten close to Barry's tone.
I've worked on it off and on for a while now and never really been happy about it. Yesterday I wasn't feeling my Dead jam so I switched to the ABB. I happened to be on the VP and just backed the tone off and was suddenly circling the target. I just fiddled by instinct and there it was. The chain didn't nail it, but it was very close. The average listener definitely wouldn't notice a difference. Color me thrilled.
Now if only I had chops like that dude had.
