Thunderbird Club

LOL - could be worse, he could have said it weighs about half a stone and is about .004 Furlongs in length with a sweet purplish green with brown edge sound to it. And don’t forget it plays like butter. :roflmao:
My white CP plays like Kerry Gold butter! My Goth Flying V guitar played more like apple butter -- ok but not really great.

I admire all you multi-instrumentalists! I can only play bass. I do own 2 guitars. An old Gibson Melody Maker and a slightly newer Harmony Monterey. I can't really play either of them lol. I use the acoustic way more than the electric; usually just to figure out chords to songs I'm trying to learn

That's exactly what I use my guitars for. I can play a little more than that, but not much. So why do I even have more than one guitar? Um, gosh. Why do I have so many bass guitars. I kinda don't remember now.

All awesome options, I think the big thing is that I may be smitten by that 2002, I played it and it just felt and sounded great, seemed to not be too heavy. It has a babicz bridge on it so it’s not all original. But it really spoke to me. I do have a lot to think about however. I do live in a very metro area and I don’t think these TBirds even with the shrunken headstock would fit my two gig bags (mono dual) and older reunion blues continental
If it already has a Babicz on it, then that's a big bonus in my world. It's not a necessary upgrade, but it's a nice one. There are gig bags it will fit in, but no, it probably wouldn't fit in a standard sized one.

Sounds like you need to make an offer for that bass. It's choosing you. If you don't take it home, it will haunt you and give you no peace until you have a Thunderbird. That's what happens. I had a Thunderbird and let it go. Now I have four Thunderbirds and a Thunderbird shaped P-Bass. Thunderbirds made me get rid of two Rickenbackers. Rics just don't have the same power that a Thunderbird has like that. Denying a 'Bird what it tells you is a very dangerous thing to do.

Wow, this thread moves fast. Been in the weeds today and this
Watt with a young Nels Cline around the same time - the drummer in the white shirt, Michael Preussner was a member of the early '90s Nels Cline Trio with Bob Mair on bass, Nels's first power trio. I saw them here in SF at the Hotel Utah in '94 playing some of this (non Watt - song after Big Train) material. Nels & co would make the trip from SoCal to SF regularly back then - shows were sparsely attended and cheap (under $10 at some funky store-front in the Mission) We were on a first name basis back then, before Wilco and international fame. I still feel lucky to have been a witness of his "early days". He always was and still is a monster musician/guitarist. Next to Miles, I have more of Nels's recordings than any other musician, many out of print.

Cool connection and story about Nel's. Those were fun times in SF back then. Saw the Ramones, Agent Orange, The Smithereens, Elvis Costello, No Means No among others I no longer can recall from the mid 80's to early 90's.

Classic SD, love their work.
To my ears it’s in the same vein as most of their other songs, a strong Funk Jazz Fusion bass line backing a smooth jazz soft FM rock vocal.
I gave up trying to play a lot of their songs a long time ago, way outta my league on skill level.
I started on “Josie” but it got stalled on the intro vocal - the bass comp syncopation is a little tricky on the timing but could play the part between- believe I will eventually get it over time but mainly for learning purposes-

Being pragmatic- who are you going to find to play it with in a group?

Hey, I’m just glad there are so many folks in the club that truly love their basses and love playing them. Free expression, no matter how confusing is always interesting.
BTW - where’s that pepperoni pick guard pic, cracks me up every time I see it.
You rang?(actually chorizo)

Mr Bungle also - saw them every time they performed. Rova Saxophone Quartette, Splatter Trio, The Mermen, John Zorn whenever he came though SF.., not the same these days with many of the clubs closed.:(

Slightly belated, but WT7?
Piano lessons-7-~15, never got all that good. Mostly hold chords so guitarist can go ape****.(I could play the "Centerfold" riff)
Clarinet, bass clarinet, saxes-12-35ish. Made acceptable 'noises' but nothing memorable. Definitely not a soloist.
Bass(electric only)-22-79+. Finally found my "home". Pretty good ear[slightly deaf now], read, mediocre soloist. (No slappa)

It goes faster in the winter, especially on weekends, when many are shut inside.

I can’t believe that shortie is still up. I expected our friend who was looking for one the other day would snag it. The pickups in the Studios sound great. Of course the recent NR’s are so ubiquitous they can be had very reasonably.
The Studio would just have the then current version of TB+?

Interesting. Kg instead of pounds, but inches instead of mm.:wacky:;)
Yes, correct.
When something is identified by an inch figure we would still use it. Otherwise it would be the metric figure. Some shops here display their guitars with metric total and scale length but it doesn’t help when 99% of the guitars are known by imperial.
I can’t talk for Canada, but down here we vote for “ease”.

They could use a 81cm scale for 32" and 86cm instead of 34. But they'd either be lying or have to change the lengths.
Yeah, but we wouldn’t. We would use mm. So a 32” would be 812.8mm (maybe rounded up to 813).

The HQ series Holden Kingswood was in production under both regimes. Its wheelbase started at 111” but finished at 2819.4mm - which from memory they just wrote as 2820mm (easier), the wagon went from 114” to 2895.4mm but they wrote it as 2896mm.

I remember reading about sone older cars where wheelbase, total length and width were quoted in feet and inches. Which I couldn’t really visualise easily - had to calculate it to inches in my head first. I do remember my Dad and Uncles referring to “that’s a 15’ car”(or 16’ or whatever) talking about the length.

That reminds me, I can play one song on piano. Sly Stone's "Everyday People."

(It has two chords in it.)
