Congrats!!!
thought it was the guy that wound it for a sec....
Cool! I didn’t really know that! And thanks, I already have a number though, I think it’s #917, this is actually me coming back haha, I had an Epi-bird that turned me on to TBirds, my only issue with it was the headstock was just way too huge and was 1#, almost the same length as my body so it looked sorta silly on me, and #2 really didn’t fit in anything other than the Epiphone hardcase designed for it.That's actually a somewhat rare finish called Natural Burst, you don't see them all that often, nice!
Congratulations on your new Thunderbird, and of course let me know if you'd like a club number.
The subtle burst on that one is beautiful. Congratulations!
Classic look!Yes, a great piece of tech that got replaced by a silicon chip and battery - like the wind up watch itself (for the masses). The Bulova watches were / are really nice. Yours is very nice in a minimalist way, cool it has the “Railroad Approved” mark. Back in the day that was a serious matter.
I think they may be owned by Citizen these days?
Enicar (started by a branch of the Swiss Racine family) has an interesting history as well. They have a Sherpa model due to being used in early Everest climbing attempts. They were also prominent in early dive watches, and were chosen as the preferred supplier to the US Navy divers after they won a competition against the Rolex and a couple of other famous dive watch brands.
They had an eye on promotions and famously strapped a dive watch to the propeller of a ship, and when it was retrieved at the other end of the journey it was still working!
They used famous brand ambassadors in print ads, the three most recognisable to me being race drivers Stirling Moss and (2x F1 WC) Jim Clark, and Aussie Tennis great Ken Rosewall.
Like a lot of great watch brands they died during the great Quartz watches revolution in the 1970s. These days the brand is owned by a Chinese company, like MG in cars, not the same to me.
I found them while searching to replace / emulate the watch my Dad wore when I was a kid. I remembered the “look” of it and that it had a distinctive logo on the watch face. My sister’s think it was an Omega and that it was very thin front to back. But when I searched the internet I found Enicar with their Saturn logo and it leapt out to me. I ended up buying one on eBay and it looks very close to Dads old watch. It was also much cheaper than buying a vintage Omega! It is a daily “wind up” style watch. It is a circa 1958 model. I only wear it occasionally but I do like it. Plus dad played tennis regularly up til having family responsibilities, and Ken Rosewall was a favourite player of his and also lived in the St George area of Sydney. So I put 2 and 2 together and got 7.25… I figure it is within the realms of possibility that he had an Enicar rather than an Omega.
Dads looked very similar to this, but it had one of those gold stretch watch bands. I just have leather. Keep tossing up about getting one of the stretchy metal watch bands…

An old Raspberries song.I should have known you’d beat me to it!
Yep. Don't know what made you ever think of that combo, but it's a great match. I can't imagine my '06 ever wearing anything but.they sounded soooo good with the LB tapes today....the P never left the stand.....
You are welcome. And I was a shocked as anyone. That came out of nowhere for me.That was truly an era when there so much mystique in rock music and you wondered "How did they come up with that?" Never would've guessed that Leland Sklar was part of that. Thank you for sharing!!
When I look at this, I want to say "...dearly beloved..."
I'm like'n it without the pg -this thing performed flawlessly on Friday after swapping the bridge to an LQ II and E tuner to a HS (both courtesy of @JJR58 thank you Sir!!!) detuner.....sometimes, it's better to do your own stuff....action is still a little high but will wait to adjust since it may not be necessary as it sounded so good....

...wait, a naturally finished 77 you bought new in '81 ? I'm confused.bought it brand spanking new too (from Modern Music) in Ft Laud. in '81....wonder if anyone in the club ever bought a brand new Gen 1 or 2.....
yeah never quite figured it out, it was either a later model 78/79, happened before, combination of both, or no one wanted it but one thing's for sure, it was brand new and I'm pretty sure I got it after we had a fire at the building where I lived which happened after I graduated high school in '82 so you're not alone, I've been confused about this for years....may have even been a 76, didn't know enough about Birds at the time to look at the logo....maybe someone reserved it and later changed their mind.......who knows....I have a pic of me playing it live (before the stupid paint job) in the late 80's somewhere......wait, a naturally finished 77 you bought new in '81 ? We just didn't fuss about such details back then - central focus thing was playing them!yeah never quite figured it out, it was either a later model 78/79, happened before, combination of both, or no one wanted it but one thing's for sure, it was brand new and I'm pretty sure I got it after we had a fire at the building where I lived which happened after I graduated high school in '82 so you're not alone, I've been confused about this for years....may have even been a 76, didn't know enough about Birds at the time to look at the logo....maybe someone reserved it and later changed their mind.......who knows....I have a pic of me playing it live (before the stupid paint job) in the late 80's somewhere...
