Considering black tape wounds for the fretless build... since I used up my EBCFs on the new 'bird.
Got to be kinder to the rosewood, but I've no clue how they would sound.

Anyone got good experiences to share?

I love them on the 06 Thunderbird (TB+ pickups). Great match for some reason. They don't really sound like flats or rounds, but more like flats. They are very slick to play. At first you think someone sprayed some silicone on some flats. Very flexible as well. I'm curious what the would sound like on something else, but am unsure what that something else would be. Only one or two basses I would consider trying something else on.

Is that a pic of yours? Do you still have it? An original pressing with the animated cover can be pretty valuable. And the one in the pic looks like it was a cutout! Mercury records really blew it with Bowie.

No, not mine but I have that LP w/that cover. It was given to me by a friend whose mother was a rock DJ in Omaha in the late '60s/early '70s. She gave her son (my friend) the LP's sent to her station that weren't played. He in turn offered a selection to me.

This Canadian band who only made one LP was another. I still have that LP also. My fave songs are (16:13) You Changed My Life Around (dig the crunchy Ric? bass) & (26:34) Waiting to Love You - great production, ensemble playing, Hammond intro/outro, singing/harmonies - Robbie King (organ) went on to other band fame.

Never got into Bowie(ducks the various projectiles).

I'm admittedly narrow in what I like (though that includes classical, blues, bluegrass, big band, some jazz, rock, even some limited country now that sounds more like what Skynyrd was doing 40+ yrs ago). Bowie is a good bit outside the narrow bandwidth. Like a lot of things, I'm glad people like him, but it's lost on me.

My Ibby AGB 200 is sort of a poor man's EB-2.

Music is a vast medium. I love some.., like some.., appreciate some.., understand why others like some.., and really can't be bothered by some. As far as "famous" recorded music, I wouldn't even know about it at all unless many people liked it. Lucky for all of us - there's enough of it out there for everyone to have & enjoy "their music".

I was the first kid on my block to have the 1st DB LP in 1970, The Man Who Sold the World. He had at least one earlier LP under David Jones if I remember correctly. Still one of my favorite Bowie LP's. I think RadioHead listened to it for inspiration on OK Computer, their breakthrough LP, especially the way the bass was recorded.

Then I remember that it is another case of US record companies trying to protect your sensibilities; either that or they just change stuff for ***** and giggles???

I could say that about a number of artists... but frankly, who cares what I think? (the point) Enjoy what you enjoy.

He kind of took artistic control away from the other bandmates from what I've learned. I had/liked the first couple of CTA/Chicago LP's but wasn't a fan of the Cetera years. He should have gone solo at a certain point w/o Chicago. A great bass player/singer/performer.., would never hold that against him. A lot of people like Kenny G also...

Industry guys. Whether we like them or not - they are part of the music mix/system. Speaking of which, Quincy Jones was a huge part of the music industry - an immense talent. But I will always hold it against him convincing Miles to do his "retro" concert. (doc on YouTube) Watching it reeked of pumping his ego at Miles' expense. He may have loved the man/his friend - but his ego distorted that respect... a total disrespect of the man who changed the way we think of jazz/music/improvisation. It was really hard to watch.

Regarding Bowie, I love a baritone which was his natural voice, but I liked the falsetto shrieks as well And who could have come up with the unique rhythmic rhyme of "Golden Years".

Also like the off the wall videos and vocal gymnastics such as the dissonant harmonies in the chorus of "DJ" off the Scary Monsters LP.

But when it comes to baritone, Iva Davies, who has been compared to Bowie, had him beat in some respects, particularly in this song from Measure from Measure -

I have them on the '15. The work well on that bass. The 2013 EB has nickel rounds on it. Same pickups, but i do not think tapes would work as well on it.
