Thunderbird Club

Great song - always loved that CT rocker. But not "Dream Pop", or at least not part of what was lumped into that term.

MOJO's picks - a free CD used to come with each issue. From 2010 -

Agree -
Of those listed, I listen to Galaxie 500 and Beach House. The former was a short lived eighties band. The latter has been around now for a long time.

I'm admittedly narrow in what I like (though that includes classical, blues, bluegrass, big band, some jazz, rock, even some limited country now that sounds more like what Skynyrd was doing 40+ yrs ago). Bowie is a good bit outside the narrow bandwidth. Like a lot of things, I'm glad people like him, but it's lost on me.
I get it. Different tastes. I gotta admit that I rarely spin Skynard. Usually only to try to learn a song.

I have a big collection of MOJO mix CD's. They followed a theme related to that issue. Was introduced to many songs/artists I wasn't familiar with that were big in the UK and not so much if at all in the US.

Technically falls into Thunderbird territory:

Also, seems like a fantastic price for a 2000 with OHSC and in white, but, “The front center was refinished at some time.” ??

I like the Mustang. But given it’s nowhere near a vintage Mustang with the refin (which I like) and new electronics, no way anyone should pay close to that ask.

Not sure why someone would only refin the mid section on that white Thunderbird. Too bad it looks off from the rest. At least the seller isn’t ridiculous with the price.

The Loller'd Mustang is pricy but it probably sounds great and a short scale bass is fun/easy to play. Vintage Mustangs are going for a lot of money these days but nothing like vintage guitars. I just saw a few early '60s vintage Gibson guitars that are listed for over $40k... :woot:

Pretty Mustang! Too much money for what it is but I bet it sounds as good as mine…

Which I’d sell for $500 if anyone’s interested. Same great look and same great sound but at a fraction of the price. IIRC that’s either a Gibby pup or an Epiphone 760ProBucker (I’ll have to confirm which one it is).

The white bird is a bit steep. Considering it needs a refin that will cost at least $400 it should be priced closer to $1000.

When I was first looking into Thunderbirds I saw a few videos on EMG active pickup options where seemingly, through switching, one could get a whole plethora of sounds-

But I eschewed the idea of cutting one up a perfectly good instrument to install batteries-

Has anyone tried these pickups in home-made T-Bird projects?

So, I got my painting-holding appliance together yesterday...

...which I also needed done so I can finish shaping and sanding on the neck.

Hole pattern for the neck bolts is way off from 'rectangular' and is non-standard, and neck heel is keystoned, so improvisation involving a photocopier and stickers was involved.

It'll work. 1" oak dowels, including in the vertical post, makes it sturdy.

The paint work is done by a local guy, starting price for a Re-fin/relic is 2800.00. He's pretty well known and may getting one of my Birds as a project.

Check with George @GBassNorth. He has built a lot of birds, at least a couple of which have either split or tapped pickups. I don’t recall if he has done an active one. I’m not sure if he has tried EMGs or used Chinabuckers.
