Thunderbird Club

Y'all need to be getting in on some NR action.

They all are great for different reasons. The one with the Thunderbuckers (2001) is heavy and got bottom. The one with the Gibson reissues (both “lead”) (1997) is clean and clear, while the one with the Gibson reissues from the 2021 NR (one “lead” one “rhythm”) (2014) has more bass to it. The one with the Gemini UK’s (1999) is hot with some grit. The ones with the Lollar's (1995) and the Novak’s (2003) kinda sound the same, just good.

None of them sound like TB+’s. You’d think I’d keep one with those but I’m just not a fan of the way they sound and it wouldn’t get played much.
Which Gemini pickups did you go with? The Devastator?

I got my white 2017 VP and it was/is a really good bass, seems like something special. I liked it so much I went and got a black 2022(?) new (on sale) at GC. It never came close to being what the white one is. Sold it.
My VP has never been best in most (any?) categories, but with the Thunderbuckers in it and EBCFs on it, it’s probably my best overall. Well, it was until I got the G64.

FTR - related to being a long term member this thread, (#63) I have owned and have actively played a vintage ('63) T-bird since 1974 and semi-professionally played a '64 II since '78. Currently I'm part of two (amateur) bands - and have only brought out my '64 II on rare occasions with one of them. I admit w/o apology that I don't favor my '64 II in in either band. It just isn't that versatile regardless of what anyone sez'. Point being, I l am a longer term T-bird advocate than anyone on this thread (other than Carlo...) so I have more experience playing a vintage T-bird than anyone here. (again, 'since '74) Love my '64 T-bird II, love all those who love T-birds - but it's only one bass in our world. Go with whatever works best for you regardless of brand/model.

The bike is m GF’s “MIYATA” she bought it sometime in the last century (funny we can say that now and it has weight).

I think my 60's RI are also both "lead", & i can attest they are clean & clear. Having now wired them in series, there's just a bit more thunder fullness in the fold, but retained the clarity & clean nature of them. I've contemplated getting a set of TB+ (maybe not Gibson branded, but the Eric Custom stuff found on EY parts or the likes). but those are quite dark in nature, & while i might like em in some applications, i don't think they'll work in the long run as a main rotation sound. I'd rather have something bright I can darken up, it'd be quite difficult to brighten something that's inherently Dark sounding. at least IMO.

If i had a couple of Tbirds more, i'd get a fully white one, & an epi Pro active. But that may be later on, if i still have an itch for one or both of those variants after mine is newly built next year.
