Thunderbird Club

as opposed to?
I took the set of DTFs off the '64 to try on the old NR, and they are staying. (They were the only set on a bass long enough to try.) I put the SIT Powerwounds back on the '64 for the time being. I like them and likely my favorite Rounds. Tied with the Dean Markleys depending on the bass. But after having the La Bellas on the '64--then not--I'm happy to have them back on. Sweet! They work perfectly for my objectives. Big, fat, full with some punch and slight top end. I live in the "No Clank Zone." Not that it can't sound good, just not my thing.

a whole lot to be said for the even balance across the fb you get from flats.....never tried on a 60's Bird but it's making more and more sense....

I thought we were working a story where wild groupies had taken Ken hostage after a gig, or something like that.
If only my life were that exciting.

Reminds me of when I first moved out of my parent's house (the late 70's). Threw a housewarming party of sorts, and invited my co-workers from Bob's Big Boy (SoCal diner). There were two tall female volleyball players that everybody liked. At one point, they decided I was too uptight, and needed to loosen up. I was in my kitchen, and one pressed me back against the counter while the other forced a joint in my lips. Being the product of a strict upbringing, I had never tried pot, drugs, or alcohol... despite many of my friends being partiers. Anyhow, it was kind of titillating, to say the least. Here I was being mildly assaulted by attractive co-workers - but I was resisting. Fortunately, everyone else was in the living room, or else they might have helped the girls force me to inhale.

In hindsight - I should have told those girls that I was a virgin - just to see if they would remedy that. You're giggling... but given the circumstances...

I have another tale of a close call involving one of those girls in a dormitory almost a year later. My life wasn't exciting - but there were opportunities!

Hadn't really thought about the balance, but it's certainly true. I have used them on the '76 (currently light 66s), and a VP (GHS) for years. It literally never crossed my mind about trying them on the '64 until talking with J.T. DTFs are all he uses on long scale basses (La Bella endorsing artist), and that got me to thinking why not try it. I like them on a few other basses so maybe. I did and honestly figured it was going to be short lived. Turns out the longer they were on the more I liked them. Actually a shock to me. I told him while liking them it never crossed my mind to try them but was glad he got me to thinking about it and am I did. Likely the last string set I'll need to buy for that bass. Clearly not for everyone, but I love the tone and the feel.

had a set of Chromes on my BaCH IV and it really was a match made in heaven....went back to RS66, don't know why.....it's weird, almost like a security blanket knowing (when playing live) that all available tones are there should you need them......but not realistic (or fair) to expect that level of functionality from an instrument based on an over 60 year old design that came with flats in the first place......ymmv...

Couldn’t find a Les Paul bass club on here, do any of you Gibson experts know if this is a legit serial? The look up sites are not recognizing it and I’ve never seen a number under the “made in USA” thanks.

My 2011 Les Paul Oversize stamp looks just like that.
