Thunderbird Club

Couldn’t find a Les Paul bass club on here, do any of you Gibson experts know if this is a legit serial? The look up sites are not recognizing it and I’ve never seen a number under the “made in USA” thanks.
1977-Present

8-digit number impressed into the back of the headstock with "MADE IN USA" impressed below the number. The format is as follows:

YYDDDRRR

YY indicates the last two digits of the production year

DDD indicates the day of the year

RRR is the factory ranking/plant designation number.

So, 82nd day of 1990 and made in Kalamazoo, MI

Reminds me of when I first moved out of my parent's house (the late 70's). Threw a housewarming party of sorts, and invited my co-workers from Bob's Big Boy (SoCal diner). There were two tall female volleyball players that everybody liked. At one point, they decided I was too uptight, and needed to loosen up. I was in my kitchen, and one pressed me back against the counter while the other forced a joint in my lips. Being the product of a strict upbringing, I had never tried pot, drugs, or alcohol... despite many of my friends being partiers. Anyhow, it was kind of titillating, to say the least. Here I was being mildly assaulted by attractive co-workers - but I was resisting. Fortunately, everyone else was in the living room, or else they might have helped the girls force me to inhale.

In hindsight - I should have told those girls that I was a virgin - just to see if they would remedy that. You're giggling... but given the circumstances...

I have another tale of a close call involving one of those girls in a dormitory almost a year later. My life wasn't exciting - but there were opportunities!
Back in the day there was a Bob’s across from UCI. That poor Big Boy got snatched and ended up in a dorm a few times.

Back in the day there was a Bob’s across from UCI.

Bob's was great. We were in the Mall - so officially a Bob's Junior. But you could drink all the pop you wanted, provided you brought your own mug from home. I don't get the $$$ aspect of that myself. I know it was to save the paper cups for the customers - but drinking pop through the day had to cost them $$$. Closing shift was cool, despite having to clean, because whatever was cooked had to be 86'ed. Which meant take what you wanted as you departed. Burgers. Fried chicken. Fries. Mmmm. I'd say "Dude, why are you frying chicken when we close in 40 min?" He'd go "Shhhhhhh"

I learned that the reason our Reddi Whip cans never had enough propellant in them was because some of the employees were huffing it. o_O You'd go "Anybody seen __________ ?" and be told "She's in the walk-in cooler, organizing stuff". Again???

We'd get the Mall lunch rush at Noon... and many days our Manager would have us serve fries that were made around 11am. I'm like "Can't we make fresh ones at 11:50?". "NO... just drop them in the hot oil fryer for a minute", Sure enough, customers would bring them to the counter, and say the fries were "double cooked" and they wanted fresh. So you'd have to apologize, and make a fresh batch. Which then took time. We had QC issues, the least of which was runny Reddi Whip. I soon transferred to a Bob's Big Boy for the breakfast shift. No more free eats - but a healthier conscious.

Thunderbird Thursday, and the frets are back on…

Just wasn’t playing the fretless neck that much and it’s too nice a bass to leave on the stand all the time, so back to fretted she went.

That's not correct, Dave.

Gibson's date codes from '77 on are as follows:

Y first digit of the year
D day of year
D day of year
D day of year
Y second digit of year
R
R
R these are rank in that day's production.

My '89 is S/N 82629798, using your formula it would be an '82 and that would be incorrect.

I took that right off the Gibson website, but I guess the Y......Y didn't copy correctly. So, 1992 8th day Kalamazoo.

Soda costs so little that management wasn't concerned about the loss. Plus they probably figured that the staff was going to drink it anyhow and not pay for it so they could look like they are being generous by letting you drink it for free. Sodas in restaurants have an extremely high average markup, often reported around 1,125%.

Too bad I never had that book. I never told a co-worker or someone who worked for me that they were stupid. Only bosses. I’m pretty certain they were happy when I retired.
would having been more proactive and suggesting something like this to your management have helped?....

Don't need a book for that. I have a small sign that lays on my desk someone I oversaw thought sounded like me and bought it. It says, "Did you have a bowl of stupid for breakfast?" Sometimes if someone says something "that fits" I will just pick it up and we laugh.
