My illustrator bro finished the 11 x 17 inks on the first four of in-book illustrations for
Harrington's View a few days ago.
Interestingly I noted that one of us had installed image #1 right side up in my hardcopy portfolio and my first thought was- That's our bro Chucky!!!
So I asked Garrett if the image was supposed to be upright or inverted as I first received via text- and he replied that it was supposed to be inverted - I agreed given that the guy looked way too cool and collected for someone on his way to a psychiatric facility-
So this is how it will go in the book- one Caleb Key apparently drifting in space on the space yacht
Lenore to Harrington's View for psychiatric evaluation (though he did not know it at the time)
The next three images are of a decidedly feminine gender-
This is Möbius so nicknamed because she first manifests to Caleb as a multi-colored Möbius Strip. Anna Harrington, his psychiatrist wryly refers to her as a "Möbius Stripper" later in the novel-
Here are the Harrington sisters, Leia and Anna, confronting Mr. Key after an escape attempt - the one on the right is his psychiatrist-
And the last of this first batch would be Arista, an extraterrestrial Viragan-
For context - a clip shortly after they meet-
Leaning forward, she placed a hand on each side of his head and began sniffing rapidly as a dog would its owner after a long absence.
Sniff, sniff, sniff, long exhale. She briefly recoiled, then cocked her head in a quizzical fashion before resuming.
“Hmm, there’s been a lot of women in your life.”
Ticklish, he squirmed. “What planet are you from?”
“Viraga, to be exact.”
“Yeah, right.”
She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, revealing bluish white lips. Then she blinked, revealing opaque silver white eyes.
Caleb gasped and jerked backward.
She caressed him gently with her hands. “Calm, calm, what you saw were vestigial nictitating membranes. Look at me now.”
He did so, gazing once again into pale blue irises.
“Is there anything else I need to know?” he asked shakily.
“None other than super-human strength and psionic abilities, the usual fare. But in case you’re wondering.”
She placed her hands on her hips and drew herself up.
“Resistance is futile!” she said in mock basso profundo.
So each image will be scanned and cleaned up digitally before being proportionately reduced from the original 11 x 17 inches to an 5.5 x 8.5 paperback book format, which should render a nice resolution.
Commissioned another eight. which I'll share when I get those inks.
As far as the novel goes, I'm on page 133 out of 430 performing the second round of stylistic and grammatical edits, after which I'll do a read through to check the pacing before sending to a professional editor. After that I'll shop for an agent who likes sci-fi-
