Pre flight crab = yummy!

I had these as an appetizer last night, my mother's 94th b day.

We were here: Bin 47 - The SOMM - Woodinville

Both. No seafood since ~'85; no commercial flight since 12/25/1970.
Meant to ask earlier- is it a sensitivity? A firiend who once lived in San Francisco ate too many crabs as a kid and developed a sensitivity to seafood protiens- Sounds odd I know but apparently there were street vendors in the early-70's who sold the cooked crab, making them readily available -

How does that chip happen? Pulling the anchor or it took a hit that moved the anchor?
Who knows. But the nitro finish on those is pretty thin. Mine has a tiny chip and I have no clue how it got there. I don’t necessarily baby my Thunderbirds; none of them are in cases. But I’m careful with them at the same time.

If you can refinish it yourself it’s not a bad price.
But if you send it out for a finish job it’s gonna cost at least $500 plus shipping. You can find these all day long in great condition for $1500 or less. Hard pass for this non self finisher.
Yeah, but I’m thinking refined in something you can’t get otherwise. Like a Sparkling Pelham Blue for example. You would basically have a new bass in a cool color for under 2K. Frankly, were I still able to spend like a drunken sailor, I would probably buy it.

I revisited their catalog with the recent passing of Rob Hirst. Tons of great music.

That would be the late Bones Hilburn on Tbird.
The good ol’ Aussie water tank behind Rob Hirst gets used in a song as a giant percussion instrument :) . Then gets used again to transport the drum kit, they pack them inside the tank and into the van (truck?).
That looked a bit like the concert in Sth Africa? If it is, they allow some locals on stage with them during a song, I think at the end. Really good.

Meanwhile in Sydney on the weekend there was a healing concert on Bondi Beach. Crowded House performed.

The newsclip below has to be watched on YouTube only.

Jive Talkin is played on a synth, although he used a Ric for the video.
I think they used both the synth and the bass guitar playing on that bass line.
Whatever it is, it is great. First song that I thought WOW! Probably the first Bee Gees song that I knew was them. Got into the history a bit from then and during the Sat Night period.
I remember a bunch of us kids getting a lift home from footy or some school function by one of the fathers, Staying Alive came on the radio and we all stopped talking - what’s that? - a stunning moment. After the track was back announced as the Bee Gees, Mr C said and they are an Aussie band, they started in Australia. Shocked. Had plenty of opportunities after that to hear that song on the radio & TV of course, but I remember the first.

I only know because I cover Jive Talkin, did a bunch of reading about it, and then worked out a patch on my C4 pedal that provides a decent approximation. Of course it works best with my Ric-like object.
It is a blast to play!

Renders my previous response unnecessary.

It’s prob still my fave BGees song if forced to name one song.

It has a sort of life in it.

Inp

Rockefeller? Those look perfectly prepared....

No, these were raw on the half shell with sauterne cider pickled foie gras, shallot mignonette  Went well with two Manhattans, a Wagyu tenderloin and some gnocchi.

So I found a guy recommended by my luthier who does refin’s about 15 minutes from me.
They range from 250-400 for a body repaint, or strip and refin.

Since I’m putting back to together my black J, I found it appropriate to do this to the HS, in nitro.
For 50 bucks, he did beyond such a precise and clean job.

Basses are gonna get dinged.
I don’t care, if it’s from playing it.
Only from carelessness is when it’s a drag.

My cousin gave me a copy of Odessa in 1969. Velvet album cover and all. I must have played it every day for at least a month. The “disco” period was not for me at all. But I have grown to appreciate it for what it was in its time.
