Thunderbird Club

I realize guitars (esp. Les Pauls) ar etheir bread and butter, but if they'd make just a little more effort (like custom shop and limited edition paint jobs) they could start selling more basses.
Ah, I think you've backed into Gibson's business model. Clearly it is to not sell more basses. There can be no other rational explanation.

Cool. Can I get a 426 Hemi for the Ford truck from you?
We do do crate motors....But Ford Racing only at this stage....

Some fun stuff on that set list, "All Right now", "Burnin' Love" and "Crazy little Thing" :bassist:
Who is singing?

Thanks for the video Scott.

The headstock… I prefer the coloured groove around the edge but that looks fine. I’m thinking that’s the headstock they used on the Studio model?

I’m a little surprised by the thicker body. I get your reasoning though I’m not 100% onboard with the change. I’d have to try one I guess.
I prefer the all black, monster h.s. Maybe 'cos we're in different hemispheres? ;)

So I got to check out the new 2026 Thunderbird earlier this week and I was pretty impressed. In a nutshell it feels like the new Nonreverse but with a Reverse body. I've stopped comparing every new irritation of the Thunderbird to the 60's birds and I am just trying to evaluate them on their own merits. This just a short immediate reaction to the bass having just unboxed it.

Scott, thanks for posting and keeping us all up to date on Gibsons latest offerings!

I gotta say, it’s a nice looking bird but I can see where they’ve incorporated some cost savings to keep them competitive with other bass brands. Two finish choices is underwhelming, run a few dozen each month thru the same paint booth as some Firebirds and charge a $100 premium for heavens sake.

The Hipshot hardware wouldn’t have been my first choice but it’s as good or better than the previous stuff. The headstock isn’t my favorite rendition in the history of reverse birds at all. I do like the set neck design, more so than neck through (especially if you ever have to fix a broken one). I’ve always wished for a flat back on the reverse, so that’s a real plus for me. Upper fret access is always welcome but has never been a prerequisite on any bass I’ve purchased. More important to me is balance and overall weight, so hopefully Gibson didn’t sacrifice the two latter attributes to get that improved but rarely ever needed access.

My biggest hesitation on the entire design is the DiCola pickups. I’ve had two Gibsons with them. A 2013 EB5 that was a dream to play and had zero issues to dial in, and my 2015 Tbird that is the most problematic bass that I’ve ever set up. Once dialed in it sounded great but it literally took me months to get there. The magnetic pull on the DiColas is insanely over the top. Gibson should market those pickups to salvage yards to lift junk cars into the compactor. Again, they sound wonderful, but I sure had to work hard to get there on the bird, not at all on the EB, so I’m very cautiously optimistic on that front.

Lastly, with the glut of Reissue NRs on the market I would hope they’d halt production on those and focus on making the Reverse the best bird yet. It might be just that, time (and sales) will tell. I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

Yeah, I get that. But I ended up with a VSB (Vintage Sunburst) T’Bird and I fell in love with its looks.
Just lucky I guess, to get a very good example.
I have three bursts (an original, a Greco, a VP). I had four but sold the Epi IV. They’re fine, but I want some bold variety.

A bit of Aussie Rock n Roll. I’d call it Pub Rock but that scene is long dead. Although the song originated in that timeframe.

Rose Tattoo - Hard Road offical video. It’s a Vanda Young song originally written for Stevie Wright. I think Rod Stewart might have covered it back then as well. Still this version has the Tatts all over it!

Putting the video up because I thought Donnie @dagrev might dig the Valiant convertible. 🤣

I learned standard in a 66 Valiant! No blower, tho.
Cool band!
