Thunderbird Club

It was a nice morning and since I had the day off I drove to West Seattle and visited:
The Bass Shop | Selected Used and Vintage Bass Guitars

Great place! I first met Chad Beeler back at BassNW and he's attended a few of the Seattle area GTGs as well, it's a lovely shop and I'd highly recommend a visit should anyone's travels bring them to Seattle. I played the Lull with the Darkstars, pretty growly, I didn't turn it up and hit it with a pick tho I really wanted to. Quite a few cool old Gibsons and an Ibanez V........ Beats mowing the lawn all to hell!
The Cort Jeff Berlin on that site is cool as ****

Let me know when that Lull drops about another $3k, I'll be all over it, lol

And how could you NOT try the Ritter? That thing is wild looking!

DAMMIT!!! I can't get the balance between the neck & the bridge right! There a little bit of a "hip" in the neck between the 12th fret & the neck/body joint on the low side that's messin' with me. When I get the action near where I want it, I pick up a buzz on the E & A strings. I keep going back & forth between neck relief & bridge height trying to get it as good as I can, but it's a time consuming PIA!:banghead:
I had a similar problem with my Chickenbacker on the bottom string, heres my quick and effective butchery fix .. Take a small piece of aluminum foil and slide it into the nut with the troublesome strings pressing it into place. Use just enough aluminum foil so the buzz goes away without the string sitting too high. My guitarist had this issue and I set her straight too, dont mess with the truss rod as it sounds like a nut job or a fret job is in the future.

They are Strat knobs on mine as far as I can tell. I do plan to replace the knobs on mine with reflector knobs.
... and the sooner, the better! The only OEM knobs that I've ever seen on a Fender, that I can honestly say I like, come on the Aerodyne! I know it seems silly... but those 7ender knobs look like they would be more at home on a kitchen appliance from the 1960's, than on any guitar!

High fret?

It held no fascination for me, there was a nice Gibson Victory Standard for like $600.00 that was tough to pass up - White Epi on the way tho.

I don't think it's a nut or fret issue. When I hold the bass up, point the headstock towards the light, close one eye, & look down the neck on the low side... there is a noticeable dip that goes from the N/B joint to the 12th fret. I don't see it on the high side. As I climb the neck fretting notes... the buzz appears on the E and A strings as I get closer to the 12th. I've seen it, and dealt with it before. It's not so bad that I can't play it. I'll just hafta spend some time on it, and settle for less-than-perfect action.

The nut is janky. E,A, & D aren't cut deep enough. G seems ok (weirdo_O)

Good to see you back @ColinLP , excellent news. As for the tough stuff, like Tbird said, we're with you. Don't avoid asking, for what it's worth... maybe something!

Hey @theFixer, try looking up a dude named Dan Erlewine at Stewart MacDonald. He's a wizard, and has fixed and published about hundreds of guitar/bass problems and their solutions. I'd warrant he's got something for you there.

I'm familiar with Mr. Erlewin. I've picked a few things up from him over the years. I think I've found an adequate work-around, but if it doesn't work out, I'll skate over there & see what I can see.

It's just a very slight rise, but I like that looow looow action... and it's gotta be buzz free... so, I gotta message it & talk to it a li'l bit. I'll git 'er!

Sorry Dude, I dont believe Ive seen that before and hope you can fix it soon. You are the FIXER!, Fix it Dude!

Oh WOW!, I gotta say I truly never experienced a sound quite like an "Angry Piano" on any of my basses or rigs before but let me tell you. I had band practice tonight for the first time since I set the tone cap free and I believe I have acquired said "Angry Piano". As soon as my bass lines kicked into the first song I swear I saw the drummer shrink behind his drum set and sweat with nervousness and I could read my guitars players mind and it said "I think Im scared",as she looked at her guitar and thought "Were gonna need reinforcements". All the while I was pounding and digging and pummeling I could not help but smile as if I entered another dimension. Hey @kat888 and @JJR58 remember my offer to buy you tall frosty ones?, If I ever can Im going to have to make them pitchersdrool

Remember to keep the front of the 3 point bridge a tad higher than the rear
