It's no flight case, but the exterior shell is quite stout, and the 37 latches leave you certain it's gonna stay closed. The interior is the lap of luxury, and hugs the guitar very securely. I'm prone to believe the Thunderbird case would be on par. I've seen a lot of Gibson cases over the years, and these are the finest by a large margin IMHO.

Not only that - But the white-lined Gibson cases have a wonderful vanilla scent to them as well - very yummy! :)

The birds have been a Godsend over the last few months for stress relief, noodling in the garden in the sun when I get 5 minutes to myself . If you remember my last post was back in March when my wife was having her thyroid removed because of potential cancer, well it turned out to be the case but thankfully she was given the all clear yesterday so a big relief there.

I'm looking for a sharp, bright string to help offset the depth/darkness of the tone of this Goth. I was gonna go straight for Kat's recommendation until I read what @JJR58 had to say about acidic alien sweat (yet another trait that leads me to believe that he & I were separated at birth). I'm lookin' at stainless for brightness & longevity. That leaves me with D'Addario ProSteels, EB Cobalts, and DR Hi Beams & Fat Beams. I'm leanin' towards the Hi Beams...

I use DR Hi Beams, like them fine. But haven't tried anything else on it. So... not much help. Oops

I wasn't a big fan of that smell. Funny thing about recent 'Bird cases. The one that came with the '15 looks like an older case. It's tan and has a pink lining. The problem is that the recess for the bass itself isn't all that snug, and the bass can wander a bit inside the case. I actually prefer older Gibson cases or Epiphone cases to the latest Gibson cases. The EB has a black case with white inside. It fits a little more snugly than the 2015 'Bird fits in its case. I don't know if the same issue comes up with 2013 and 2014 'Bird cases.

Hey Colin!! Nice to see you pop back in!! I am happy to hear that you have good news in relation to your wife's illness. Sorry to hear about your mothers situation.

Its already been there a few weeks. The string spacing on these is a bit tighter than most and the neck is more along the lines of the larger Epi bolt neck Birds (not skinny like the 1.5" versions) but not uncomfortable. The bodies are a bit bulkier than normal Birds as well.

These are Tbirds in shape only. Everything about them is 7ender type of construction. Alder body, maple neck, PJ pickups make it basically a 7ender with a cooler look. If you want the 7ender sound in a Bird package, these are great basses. I still have 2 of the 4 stringers and really like them.

DAMMIT!!! I can't get the balance between the neck & the bridge right! There a little bit of a "hip" in the neck between the 12th fret & the neck/body joint on the low side that's messin' with me. When I get the action near where I want it, I pick up a buzz on the E & A strings. I keep going back & forth between neck relief & bridge height trying to get it as good as I can, but it's a time consuming PIA!:banghead:

It was a nice morning and since I had the day off I drove to West Seattle and visited:
The Bass Shop | Selected Used and Vintage Bass Guitars

Great place! I first met Chad Beeler back at BassNW and he's attended a few of the Seattle area GTGs as well, it's a lovely shop and I'd highly recommend a visit should anyone's travels bring them to Seattle. I played the Lull with the Darkstars, pretty growly, I didn't turn it up and hit it with a pick tho I really wanted to. Quite a few cool old Gibsons and an Ibanez V........ Beats mowing the lawn all to hell!
